It is fractal and the expression for it is a function of a function of a function of a function of function... you get the idea.
What the "formula" looks like I can't say because I haven't seen it, but what I do know is the function inside the function inside the function..... is "z^2.3 - 0.75 - 0.2j". I could have sat down (for ever) and expanded the expression (just like saying a half of a half of a half is an eigth) to come up with something that would probably take an age to type in "code" text box correctly.
Instead I put some python code in there and let the computer do the hard work unravelling it. The author has been clever and passes what you type in the text box to the python interpreter as actual code
It doesn't just have to be a w=..z.. type expression!
If you want to play with it, type* the following code in the "code" text box:
(*I wish I could say copy/paste, but it doesn't seem to work
A recurring problem I have with GTK text widgets, any ideas?)
def f(z):
<TAB>zz=z**2.3-0.75-0.2j
<TAB>return zz
w = f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(f(z))))))))))))))))))))
The <TAB> is a single keyboard tab and there should be 20 "f(" in front of the "z" and 20 ")" after it.
Feel free to play around with the 2.3, 0.75 and 0.2 or put more or less f( ) in. Be ready to play around with the x and y limits too, so you can see the "whole picture".
Some values you'll pick will result in a boring uniform output
, others will result in a divide by 0 and crash the plugin
No harm done, restart the plugin, the text you've typed in will remain in place and you can pick some other values
I'll try to come with some other -hopefully simpler- expressions that yield interesting results if anyone's interested. I wouldn't mind applying a ton of tweaks to this plugin and maybe even making it a slider only toy, but not sure how that would sit with the author (who still looks active on git with it
)
Have fun, I'm off to install Twist;)
