Does everything work except simple border?

From earlier post
" What does not work - the simple border, the changes to the Gimp 2.10 clipboard cause an error."

Nothing you can do about that.

Any chance this will be fixed anytime soon in either GIMP or the plugin? Is there another plugin with the same functionality that DOES work in GIMP 2.10?

This is the mini 64bit version (only selected own textures/frames, without any automatically imposed).

For the GimpPortable version I needed the "slim" 64bit version so I compiled - maybe someone will benefit.

You need to add your textures and frames to the "Beautify Texture & Border" catalog in thematic subdirectories, e.g. Frames, Flowers, Grid, etc.

In menu Gimp: Filters/Decor/Beautify Texture & Border...

Thank you MareroQ. I tried the other 'extra' ones before and couldn't get them. I hope these work in my gimp.

:( Looks like I have to check where they go. My gimp is not a portable and the beautify plugin comes already installed in 2.10. I could not find a specific folder to put the items in the zip file. I tried plugins but that didnt work.

@MareroQ

Where is the resource catalog folder Beautify-Image supposed to go? (in gimp_directory) to me indicates the Gimp user profile but I have tried various places, main gimp directory / gimp plugins directory / gimp user directory.... and can not get it to show. Running from a terminal in verbose mode & got a load of glib errors.

Using regular Gimp 2.10.14 / Windows 10

Edit: Ok, forget that. I am using the wrong folder name. Needs to be "Beautify Texture & Border" as your zip file.

I have the plug-in in its own folder, also declared it as plug-in folder in the GIMP settings.
Then at the same level I put the other folders (rip-border, texture-border, simple-border)
Looks like this:

And I have the tabs as seen with MareroQ screenshot

Thank you for this Plug-in.
I have everything up and running after a little problem with Trend Micro not wishing to let me install. Extra frames created in Sinedots work well.
I have one wish, that someone could get Simple Borders to work.
If I made my own "simple borders" which format would I have to save them in?
I have not yet tried Skin Whitening beautify plug-in, will do that shortly.
I am using Windows 10, 64 bit, Gimp 2.10.12.

I was looking at this for someone yesterday and came up with this:

The original simple-border masks are transparent png's and as far as I can tell do not work as expected. Transparency becomes solid.

The same without transparency ( no alpha, so might as well use jpegs and save space) seem to work (but might not be as expected). White = transparency Black = FG colour, as shown in one of the previous posts.

Does this work with the non portable gimp? I'm using gimp 2.10.18 windows 10 64 bit. I asked this question before, and it wasn't answered.

....Soooo test it out for yourself? I don't run Windows and not really interested in this anyway, so can't help here.

I was just curious but I really don't have to test it out since it works in the original version. I do wonder if plugin, simple border (I think that one doesn't work) will ever work again.

Thank you rich2005 for your comments on this issue Post #160.
I will keep trying to find a satisfactory result to this. At the moment I have gimp 2.8.20 on an old machine so can use that if necessary.
My understanding of this Beautyfi Plug-in is that it was built some 8 years ago and has never been updated.
One day someone may come along and help out. Wishful thinking!!!

Just a curiosity:
what do they find so interesting (nice) those who from time to time recall this filter?
Which function/effect really "beautifies" an image?
I remember I played in the past with it, but never had the impression of a function "to preserve" as precious.
Just curiosity...

dinasset, in a general GIMP websearch Beautify still shows up on out-of-date websites as a "must have" "top-ten" "best plug-ins available" sort of thing. I collected the plug-in a couple of years ago when I first started exploring GIMP but after confirming that it worked I never found occasion to use it for anything.

Old plugin, useful in its day. Probably most of the effects are reproducible using other plugins such as gmic. One thing that is still broken is the 'simple-border' plugin. In linux Gimp 2.10.14 it now offsets the mask. Not much in gmic in the way of frames.

MareroQ re-mix might be used just for border effects. I did give it a try for someone and bundled some filters up on dropbox, see: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Plug- ... 1#pid17151

Of course, you can go right back to basics, hands-on using layer masks, some details here: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Easy-Edge-Masks

I found that the simple borders always came out very thin - or am I not doing something?
Never was able to download extra borders (Oh the file downloaded but I didn't see them) I too have more or less given up on it and started making my own now

I have the 'c' file which says gimp_context_set_pattern (_("Clipboard")); In gimp 2-10 it has been changed to "Clipboard Image"
Hands up who would like to change and compile for 2-10
