I wanted to use some PhotoShop patterns in Gimp-2.8 and ran into a slight problem.
My plug-in from Gimp-2.6 would not work for some reason so i compiled it for the Gimp-2.8 windows environment. (32 bit only)

Not sure if many of you knew it or not but Gimp-2.8 does not auto open Photo Shop pattern files without a plug-in originally created by eric.lamarque - http://registry.gimp.org/node/10879

It works now for Gimp-2.8 - just drag your patterns into Gimps image area (no need to open a layer), and Gimp will open each one as a different layer.

INSTALL-
Place the execute file in your plug-ins folder.
Restart Gimp-2.8

Enjoy! :)

Zip attached.

So can you place the files into your pattern file and have them work or not? Kinda would make it a lot easier to use don't you think?

Not sure about Mac 2-ton.Partha may be able to add a compiled Mac version to MacGimp for you. :)

@ ZWard - This plug-in will not allow you to open them from the patterns folder.
You have to open via drag and drop, File>Open or File>Open as Layers.
This was a plug-in intended to open Patterns from Adobe so you could save each layer as PNG and then save and load them as Gimp PAT files.

There used to be a save all layers as patterns script but i can't find it.
Then you could open Adobe files as layers, save each layer as a string named pattern file.

If you use GURM or MQ's pattern Manager you can save (using Saulgoodes "save-all-layers" script) all layers to a folder in your patterns resource folder and load them via the manager. This is what i do.

I know of no plug-ins that allow to open Adobe pattern files via the pattern folder.

Rod - I think this is the script you mentioned for saving layers as patterns.

Thanks to you and Samj for the new compiles for 2.8.

rod if you have GAP you don't need the script :
first save as xcf where you want the path files, then Video/split image into frames , change from default (xcf) to pat and done
(you may then delete the xcf if you don't need it...it has to be saved the xcf only because the layers will be saved in the same place

and btw no reason to save as pat, png and jpg are also accepted for gimp pattern

Excellent idea PC, I'd forgotten about that. Yesterday I was playing with a PS .pat file and could have used that trick.

who da man? Rod da man! And Drac da man too! There should be a congressional medal of gimp for contributions of this magnitude. I'll send you a ham for Thanksgiving, you have to kill it though.

I just copied it from my scripts folder. I have no idea where I got it. Finding stuff at the registry (just tried to find it) is such a pain sometimes cuz you have to have the name exactly right or it doesn't have a clue what youare looking for. I thought I DL it from a thread here a while back.

GMS - Thanks, but I'm confused. I didn't didn't do anything noteworthy except dig around in my script folder. Rod did all the work. Kudos go to him and samj.

This plug-in is old and I am surprised it is not better known.
The process of compiling plugins is not very technical and my thanks are to Éric Lamarque, the author of this plugin.

Same here. This is why i credited Eric in the very first post. :)
I only re-compiled it for the new Gimp-2.8 version.I wasn't sure if any other compiles would work any longer.I know mine wouldn't from 2.6.
This is normally what i will do.If a c plug-in is posted without Windows binaries i will try and compile and then test before upload.
If i run into a problem with an existing plug-in and i have the src or know where to obtain it i will try and re compile to fix it.

No thanks are necessary. I just like to help out when i can.I have gotten so much from the Gimp community i wanted to give back a little if i could. Not many folks compile for Windows and i got tired of trying to find them on my own.So i started compiling Gimp, and then now just mainly the plug-ins.
Sam is correct though, once you get the environment correct, it just works.

Well it works most of the time. :) :bigthup
