If I could understand the script-fu language then I'd have a go myself but I don't so I'm asking if anyone would be kind enough to make this script for me.

I know there are already 3d scripts out there, but I have not found one yet that is able to do what I'll be asking.

I would like a script that can take a layer of text or image and scale that layer down by a chosen number of pixels, and also offset the layer by pixels, move that layer to below previous layer and repeat the process until a set number of layers as requested by user is completed.

The effect then would be to have text tapering away.

See top image in first post as an example.

http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5165

Hope this all makes sense, if there is already ascript for this then do please point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

'GimpKnowHow' uses a demo version of Cinema 4D in this tutorial, to create the effect you are looking for
it looks really simple to use, just clicking a few buttons

also Graechan´s Metal Text script gives you a 3Dish effect, but you cant choose the vanishing point

Thanks Esper all ready have that one downloaded, but you seem to get some scripts that will create a nice 3d effect but no perspective and then you get the perspectice script from rod but it doesn't give any control over direction and you can only scale height or width not both. fussy I know.
Really would like a combination of the two.

i did some more research

got a hint from the comment section of my already posted 'Rebellion' youtube video, that a program called Blender is free and doing the exact same thing as Cinema 4D

you can download it from blender.org

next i did a search for a 3D text tutorial, found a few really bad ones and then this one:
www.youtube.com Video from : www.youtube.com

that was a pretty frustrating experience because blender uses the weirdest menu and commands i have ever seen in a program - nothing seems to work for me, because all the usual stuff that works with windows does very little to nothing

so i recommend watching this video first, because it explains a few basics, how this program works (like pressing the mouse wheel for orbit mode):

it seems making 3D text is not very difficult once you understand how its done, and probably 1000 times better than anything you can do with any GIMP script

Yes Blender is opensource but is very key shortcut intensive.
I would use Inkscape for this.

Cinema 4-D is commercial i think.

I will try and write a script that accomplishes this perspective text you want.
Give me a few days. :)

Rod, looks like you're going to have a be 1000 times on your A game, according to those who have researched the topic. ;)

Esper. I have Blender because I love 3D modelling but it's not recommended for somebody who just wants to do text. The learning curve is incredibly steep - not because it's badly developed but because it contains everything from creating a primitive, right up to sculpting, texturing, boning and animating your models and it even has a game engine built in. This makes it a very complicated tool and I still have difficulty with it. As Rod said, you need to know your keyboard shortcuts with this one.

HeathenX does have a quick tutorial on creating 3D text in Blender.

dunno, all i want to do is some very basic 3D text with Blender, it didnt look that difficult
lets see with what i can come up in the next days

of course i will be happy if Rod is able to write a script that does something similar to Blender (or similar programs) where you can rotate the text and get a preview and everything
but it seems pretty difficult to me...not that i know anything about writing scripts...

I really do not like the newer interface.
It used to be set up like Heathen X has his.Much easier to use.

I suppose you could change your dialogs around to make it look similar.
Heck i can't even find Extrude in this new version. I know EKEY is supposed to extrude but in this version it doesn't work.
I will stick with Hexagon :) (also free by the way)

Here is a screenshot of Hexagons interface.
