:gimp

I love gimp.

I want to use it on video!!

My solution, extract video frames. Run Gimp batch (bimp). Go for a walk (healthy :hehe ). Come back, Rebuild video! :yes

I know that good video packages will do many things directly. But I want access to the gimp filters.

Davids Batch Processor doesn't do enough!

Bimp looks great!

I tried to install it and failed. :gaah

As in the title, I am using Windows 7 64bit. Gimp 2.8

I am a computer literate, non programmer. Ignoring my UBER skills in BBC BASIC :hehe
I usually understand script... eventually.

Advice please,
Thanks.

I do use BIMP, works very well in a linux machine but the windows binaries that come from the BIMP site are very definitely 32 bit not 64. Can't see them working in a 64 bit windows Gimp. You will have to compile your own/ask nicely for some to be made.

Alternatives, depends on the effect you want to apply.
XnView has a batch function and lots of effects that you could apply to individual frames.
There is also the command-line option of Imagemagick, again depends on the effect.
If it is something like resizing, adding a logo/delogo, subtitle, adjusting colours, brightness etc then you can straight from video to video with Avidemux.

Thanks, I'll have a look at the packages you mention.

;)

I'm thinking of effects like solarize, etc.

Hey toj_d!

BIMP works just fine in 64-bit GIMP/Windows. Make sure you put executable file and dll file that comes with it in the C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins folder

Cheers!

After following the installation instructions, plus some comments on the forum, I still have been unable to install BIMP. I haven't upgraded to 2.8 because some other plugins don't seem to have updated versions.

Can someone provide more detailed intsructions on how to properly install BIMP on GIMP 2.6?

Current system: Win 7 64 Bit
1. Copied files to
/user/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins/

2. also attempted to copy the dll and exe to
C:/Program Files(x86)/GIMP-2.0/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins

3. even attempted to create another
/user/bimp-win32
directory and point to it in
preferences/plugins

After each try I received this error:
Quote:
The procedure entry point gimp-drawable-get-thumbnail could not be located in the dll libgimp-2.0.0.dll

I now have a Win7 64 bit VM running and the BIMP plugin as reported works fine.

The latest revision is to fix some bugs so check that it is the one installed

http://registry.gimp.org/node/26259

Just goes in the regular ...\gimp-2.8\plug-ins folder as;

@rich2005,
I was able to install BIMP to portable GIMP 2.8 with no problems.

Ideally I'd like it to work on GIMP 2.6 though. Seems like this is forcing me to upgrade. The other plugins I did not mention before are GMIC and GAP.

Not sure if there is some issue with those that generates that previous error message.

@rfusco

It is worth upgrading to 2.8.x if only for the built in python support. Gimp 2.8 will uninstall 2.6 but then it is possible to re-install 2.6 and have both co-existing. Just back up your .\gimp-2.6 folder structure first.

Gimp 2.6.12 and BIMP, G'mic, GAP I hope you have the regular 32 bit Gimp 2.6 installed rather than the hybrid 32/64 that appeared just before 2.8 was released, ie gimp is installed in program files(x86) - otherwise I have been wasting my time ;)

Easy ones first,
GAP should install without any problems. Use the photocomix package.
http://photocomix-resources.deviantart. ... -135464357
looks like this. http://i.imgur.com/DBQ924D.jpg

G'mic Get the regular 32 bit windows installer from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gmic/fi ... e/download
This installer defaults to Gimp 2.8 so where it shows the path to use, change the 2.8 to 2.6 and it will unpack the files to the correct folder 'C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.6\plug-ins' like this http://i.imgur.com/6o3jqjP.jpg Remember it is bottom of the filters menu and greyed out until an image is open.

Now the hard one BIMP. I normally use linux, compile BIMP and I do not have a full collection of the versions. What I found was ver.0.7 works but ver.0.9 and later do not. I think it was when the 'bimp-locale' folder was introduced. AFAIK Alessandro Francesconi does not have the old versions for download, so I attach it. Take the 2 files from the \bin\win32 folder and put them in your '...\gimp-2.6\plug-ins' folder.
Seems to work ok, looks like this. http://i.imgur.com/tzMPqQD.jpg

@rich,

I probably should have been more specific with the versions I'm using.
Gimp 2.6.11
GAP 2.6.0
gmic win32

Thanks for the help. Bimp version 0.7 works perfect! :tyspin

Hi everyone! I hope all of you are doing swell. I need some help in installing the BIMP Plugin for my computer which a Win 7 64 bit. I've read through all the comments on this post and I've tried what other users have suggested. And I am still having problems.

The plug-in for BIMP which I got off from the main site (http://www.alessandrofrancesconi.it/projects/bimp/) is compressed in a zip file and in that zip file it has the Licence, Changelog, Makefile, Makewin.bat, ReadMe and 2 Folders Bin and Src.

I followed the install that was given in the ReadMe but it didn't work because it is meant for Windows XP users 32bit.

I even tried going C:> users> username> .gimp-2.8> Plug-ins

Here's the thing, I have recently downloaded another plugin called layer-via-copy-cut tested out and it works. So now I know where is the exact location to install my GIMP plugins and it is in C:> Program Files> GIMP 2.8 > Lib > GIMP > 2.0> Plug-ins. I tried doing that for BIMP by copying the 3 files inside the Bin>win32 Folder and they are bimp-locale, Bimp.exe and pcre3.dll. I pasted them in my working plug-in folder, I launched gimp and I keep getting an error.

Am I doing something wrong? please help.

I checked this once before and 32 bit Bimp does work in a Win7 64 bit This a 64 bit VM and a standard Gimp 2.8.10 installation. So tried it again, admittedly a very clean installation with nothing in the way of extras.

for comparison.
the files in the Gimp C:\Users\your-id\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins folder

If you do not use the non-english languages then you do not need the locales folder, but it works either way.

What it looks like started up.

If it is not working on your installation maybe look at something stopping it such as a virus scanner.

The screenshots gave the clue - the splash screen. I can tell you what the problem is, but not the solution (other than the obvious)

You are using Parthas version. Bimp does not work with the Partha 64 bit 2.8.10 version. I can reproduce that error message

screenshot http://i.imgur.com/yx91FXX.jpg

Tried various simple fixes without success. Needs one of the clever windows guys to compile it.

edit: a little explanation
Using the regular gimp 2.8.10 installer, if you choose the advanced option, one of those is support for 32 bit plugins. That option is not there in the partha 64 bit build. If you look at the regular Gimp installation there is a whole section of files under the folder \32

OMG!!! ok!!! now it makes a lot of sense!! I honestly didn't know that the Parthas version of GIMP doesn't allow me to do that due that it is a 64bit build. And YES!! You're right Rich about that a good chunk of the plugins are made for 32 builds. hmmmm Awwww maaaaa!!! I wish there was someone to compile it for windows :< :gaah

But I am so glade that I got results from you cause I was seriously going nuts in thinking about the place where I have put in my plug-ins to begin with. LOOOOL!!! Thank you!!

Here's the 64-bit version of BIMP for Windows compiled by samj viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6306&p=114445&hilit=new+version+of+bimp#p114445

Just a few words to clarify the issue - 32-bit plugins normally work just fine under 64-bit version of GIMP (but not the other way around), including BIMP.
I don't know about Partha's build but it does work in official 64-bit release (version 2.8.0 onward)
