To add an image in the bubble, simply delete the text and input your image dimensions where it says 'additional width' and 'additional height'.

Your bubble will appear with the word 'img' in the centre and this is where you can paste your Image

Hy Graechan
i would like ,once created a balloon a option to export it exporting also the path as SVG .
and by converse to apply to a existing path (or selection i may well do "path to selection" the adjustment for Outline Size and choices for Outline , Bubble Color as well as an optional Drop Shadow.
maybe this script would be useful because AFAIK gimp open but doesn't natively export paths
http://registry.gimp.org/node/25049

The main reason is that i found the time needed to set all option correctly , without a visual reference ( because script fu doesn't support preview ), is often more of the time needed then create manually.

But this for bitmaps results , if the output could be ALSO a path, well it would be also very easy and quick to edit to quickly adapt different images .
And then will be fantastic rerun the script to add all the cool bitmap finishing (inside and outside colors, outline thickness drop shadow or glow and so on)

I hope i was clear, the advantage to have the output (regarding baloon shape ) also as path would be that as path is easier to check over a comic page and then clone and modify to adapt to several ballon in a comix page (i.e for all speech of the BaD-guy character in the page)
So result would be 1 finished balloon (bitmap) and 1 path

The bitmap output show the final result of the baloon

The path may be cloned and adapted to several balloons of a comix page (yes here i think about baloons for comix PAGES, not for single baloon for a single image ) as example to create in the Comix page all balloon for the "Dark Lady" speech on that page

Then paths are easy to test over the image then done all the cloning and adapting, that i believe better done manually, will be cool run the script to give to the paths the bitmap finishing, that will be coherent for each balloon in the page

I hope i explained it well ...
not only for size but also for image ratio and arrows angle and position , for example to create several balloon on a comix page

@Graechan
PLEASE FORGET MY PREVIOUS MESSAGE, i discover when rephrasing to try to be more clear that as enhancement request was not making sense.
Except for the suggestion to create and preserve a path corresponding to the balloon outlines

So you may skip all the colored part below , may only clear how i intend use the script and why i would find such path option useful
but i also saw that anyway is not difficult recover it
So yes i would still found the option to create a corresponding path useful, but in case you think would add too much complexity to the script, i also saw how i may solve without.

My use would be

1) run the filter as is now to create a cool balloon, only difference would be get also the corresponding path , open and /or saved

2) now i try the balloon on a comix page that contains usually from 4 to 12 imagines of different size ... and each of that image may require 1 of more balloons

So here the manual work , copy the balloon path , place where needed, and adapt (mirror , rotate enlarge distort the balloons and the arrow

3 Now i would like to run the filter this time to all the paths to create the balloons for all the page

BUT now that i explained what i want to do i feel a perfect idiot !! :bawl :gaah

I feel a idiot because there is no need to any modification of your script , but then i feel better to because i found how to use it at best :jumpclap

That is very simple, at end of step 2 i may simple convert the paths to selection and apply your script

No need to any changes
well as enhancement request was not making sense but writing it down somehow trigger my brain to the solution

Oh yes
thinking better i still would found useful the option to create and save (or keep open ) the path corresponding to the balloon, it is not strictly needed for my intended usage but would speed up
(if not i just have to select the balloon and convert the selection to path , not a big obstacle anyway

I have the latest edition of GIMP, and do not know anything about scripts, but I would like to be able to add text bubbles to an animation I am working on. What do I need to add to GIMP to run the scripts?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can directly download the script using the link below.

>>>Comix Text Bubble Rel5 Script<<<

Once download and the zip file unpacked.
The script file needs to be placed into your Gimp user Scripts folder.

If you're using Windows,
the scripts folder,
as well as many other Gimp user folders.
Are most often found at,
C:\Users\Your User Name\.gimp-2.8

The script's location is as shown in the image below.
