I am not fluent in computer language.

I have just downloaded Mathmap for the second time. (First time it didn't work so I deleted it) I followed the link to the Mathmap page (thank you Lyle), and it says I need to make a new path in gimp or it won't work.

Where do I do this? What exactly do I put? Please explain as for a child.

ps. I have Windows 7 Home Premium > 32 bit and have got gimp 2.8.10 - parthas version

I think you would go to your preferences in Gimp.
Scroll down to Folders > Plug-ins
Paste: > C:\user\your name\.gimp-2.10\plug-ins\mathmap

Correct me if I am wrong Windows users, It isn't the same in Linux.

Still not showing up in filters > generic......
Am I supposed to add "mathmap" onto user/.gimp-2.8/plugins OR am I supposed to make another one altogether. If so, how?

Edit - worked out how to add another but it still isn't happening. should that '.' be in front of gimp?

sorry to correct you, conbagui:
the bin folder does not exist under Users/user/.gimp-2.8
mentioned mathmap files have to be placed under C:/Program Files/GIMP 2/bin
afaik...

thus, SallyAnne:
-check you have put under C:/Program Files/GIMP 2/bin the 3 mathmap .dll, i.e. intl.dll, libpng12-0.dll, libxml2.dll
-check you have put the folder mathmap (the one with expressions etc..) under Users/user/.gimp-2.8
-check you have put the mathmap subfolder (the one which contains mathmap.exe) which is included in the folder plug-ins of mathmap installation set under Users/user/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins
-check you have a path under Gimp/Edit/Preferences/Folders/Plug-Ins which says:
C:\Users\User\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\MathMap

1. I didn't have a bin folder in the gimp 2.8 folder before ( not even an empty folder) I pasted the entire mathmap bin folder in there so now I have one.
2. I put the other things where they were supposed to go.
3. I made and renamed a folder in the plugins folder called mathmap and put the mathmap plugins folder in it.
4. I made another path in preferences to mathmap.
5. It is still not happening - nothing shows. I have closed gimp, restarted it. Closed gimp and my computer and restarted but nothing still.
What have I done wrong? :(

Thank you dinasset I will give that a try.

SallyAnne, you should NOT create a bin folder under .gimp-2.8!

I just installed Mathmap
I followed the original instruction but in the preferences folder plugin I write....
C:\Users\(your name)\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\mathmap\MathMap
as the .exe is in the last folder

good look!

yes, the .exe is in MathMap folder, but this one does not need to be inside another mathmap folder, my hierarchy is:
Users/User/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/MathMap

SallyAnne, maybe you may write down what you have and where, so that we can verify with our installations...

ok dinasset I will go through and do that.

path in preferences, folder plugins. C:\Users\name\gimp 2.8\plugins\mathmap\MathMap

Bin files - C: >program files >gimp 2.8 >bin folder > files added

Users > name > 2.8 > mathmap folder

Users > name > 2.8 > plugins folder > mathmap folder > plugins folder

I tell you mine:
path: C:\Users\name\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\MathMap
Bin files as you
Users>name>.gimp-2.8> mathmap folder (the one with expressions etc.)
Users>name>.gimp-2.8> plug-ins>MathMap folder (the one which is inside the installation file called plug-ins; take only this one)

Thanks I will let you know later how I go if I need to move anything around and if I have anything happen. Too tired for now - I will just mess it up or lose things. Thanks for all your help.

these where the instructions followed by me, part of the installation package:

The Installation folder has 3 folders inside
1 bin-folder: place files in Program Files bin folder (you did it)
2 mathmap-folder: place entire folder in user's .gimp-2.8 folder
3 plugins-folder: place included MathMap folder inside user's .gimp-2.8/plug-ins folder

Next you must create a new path in preferances-Folders-Plugins for your .gimp-2.8/plugins/MathMap folder
-------------------Now restart and you should have mathmap------------------
You will find Mathmap under Filters > Generic > Mathmap

maybe this will help

gimp and python see MathMap and mathmap
as different directories.
Windows see them as the same directory.
letter case

i did mine this way

i copied mathmap to gimp user directory
went to preferences plug-ins and
hooked it up. done

mathmap ah !

half a dozen gimp astronomy.exe files
need mathmap and the .dll's so i moved them there done.

moved to mathmap files below, if you have them.

astronomy-star-rounding.exe
astronomy-merge.exe
astronomy-background-gradient.exe
astronomy-artificial-stars.exe
astronomy-artificial-galaxy.exe
astronomy-alignment.exe

works fine.

That looks like how I have it all set up disasset. Now how do I get rid of it all so I can do it again and make sure I have it correct.
Am I able to do it just by removing a program or do I have to go through and delete every file?

Also, because I downloaded it once before I don't think it was entirely cleaned off before because I found a couple of duplicated files. Could this be the problem?

EDIT: I just tried to start it up from the application and it said a .dll was missing- iconv.dll

Hi SallyAnne.
iconv.dll is not part of mathmap, it should have been already there in GIMP 2/bin.
I attach here mine, just in case you don't find it anywhere.
I guess you have only to check not to have duplicates for what mathmap is concerned:
- the 3 dll (which go into Program Files/GIMP 2/bin)
- the folder mathmap (which goes into Users/name/.gimp-2.8
- the folder MathMap (which goes into Users/name/.gimp-2,8/plug-ins and is pointed to in Preferences

(the attached dll is zipped, you have to unzip it before moving it into GIMP 2/bin)
