i dont know if this really helpful as the outcome also varies with the fontsize...

This is a reference sheet for the 'Glossy Stroke 3D' script, varying the '3D amount' with each version
http://registry.gimp.org/node/24926

The font is 'Gentium Basic Bold Italic' in Size: 210

The other options should be the same as in 'Lighting Effects':

Glowing
With these option, you can set the amount of original color to show where no direct light falls.

Brightness
With this option, you can set the intensity of original color when hit directly by a light source.

Shiny
This option controls how intense the highlight will be.

Polish
With this option, higher values make the highlight more focused.

Those are excellent Esper. What a difference there is between them.

at first glance it seems each version is getting darker and darker
also, the glossy highlight is wandering to the centre of each letter

i guess, what is happening is, with each added step of 3D amount the selection is shrinked more, and thus the transparent white highlight, thats why the text appears to get darker

Sounds reasonable, and makes sense. it is amazing how some of these things work. Who would have thought to put a black layer over top of another layer then change a few layer modes and everything comes through the black. It is mind boggling.

i thought about that as well
then fired up Lighting Effects and tried another color than black
a medium gray
but then i realized, the color doesnt matter, and black is perfect, as all that you want are the highlights, and black on mode 'Screen' becomes transparent

I read it all Odin and it was very interesting but I still don't understand it all, but maybe I might as time goes by.

Great reference Esper. I get error messages with that plug-in so I don't use it.

Very informative chart again, Esper.

A website with gimp text effects and logo scripts ? Like color tables.
Thumbnails with mouse over zooming or something like that. Would be cool.

Thanks for sharing.
