Thanks. That's a Windows 64-bit solution and it won't work in my 32-bit Linux.

I have confirmed that this is a bug introduced in GIMP 2.8.4 and GIMP 2.8.2 works fine.

I removed all instances of GIMP 2.8.4 and re-installed 2.8.2, which works.

Until this bug is corrected, the solution for Fedora/Linux users is to revert back to GIMP 2.8.2 and block the system from upgrading to GIMP 2.8.4.

Yeah; the Script-fu crashes except if you use the default gradient. Saw this a week or so ago but didn't think much of it since I went ahead and used the Chrome text script-fu instead. :)

Are we certain the Window's version of GIMP 2.8.4 was free of this bug?

I just reported it here. One of the devels immediately found the bug in the source code and corrected it. So, I guess it will be fixed in the next maintenance release, whenever that might be.

Still use Win7 64-bit and, as of 2.8x, 64-bit GIMP as well Graechan. I suppose, if I really had to use the Script-fu but with a different gradient, I could just edit the Script-fu if I can find it. lol

Besides, I have more fish to fry. This bug's been posted at Bugzilla anyway. :)

Yes, I created that bug report. ;)

You didn't mention exactly which version of GIMP you were using. Are you seeing this bug in the Windows version of GIMP 2.8.4?

Thank you, GnuTux. Way cool. Looking forward to the new release. :yr :hi5

I am using 2.8.4 Tux; if this bug's been around as long as you think, why didn't anyone see this one before? lol

At least you were brave to to a bugzilla. I try not too since I've been reemed by those guys before. :)

This bug was not in v2.6.2. It hasn't been around that long, even tho that other guy said it's been around since 2006 (not GnuTux). I'm sure more people would have been yelling if it had been around that long.

I'm not sure what you are referencing, Lyle. My testing determined that the bug was not present in 2.8.2 and only occurred in the 2.8.4 release, which is what I reported on Bugzilla.

Just to clarify, you can confirm the bug is also present in GIMP 2.8.4 for Windows, correct?

Must have misread a statement and thought you or someone said this bug existed since 2.4. lol

Yes, I'm using 2.8.4 64-bit GIMP in Win7. The bug exist. :)

You must be referring to the developer who mentioned something about the bug being around since 2006. Clearly, that was not the case I mentioned in my last comment that the bug was new in 2.8.4.

HI,
Happy to find this scritp (iccii-layer-effects). Great jobs for gimps 2.8.10.
Bevel and Emboss don't stop gimp with error message.
But with the original version (don't run on 2.8.10) i use like this:
- image in background
- Add a text with tool text, select the layers with text
- run bevel and emboss
- And after i can drag the result anyway on the background
With this version i can't use lijke this. The result is always on the left top.
And i can't drag this.

Have you a soluce or a tips for this?
Many thanks

Sorry i dont write English very well

You are absolutely correct. The script does not appear to take into account layers that are not in the upper-left corner.

I don't know if this is the proper solution as I haven't examined the script in depth, but you could try adding the following lines to the script just after the 'gimp-image-add-layer' in line 91:
        (gimp-layer-set-offsets effect-layer
                                (car (gimp-drawable-offsets layer))
                                (cadr (gimp-drawable-offsets layer)) )
