A quickie to generate perspective guides:

  • Create a rectangular selection (or don't, if you want to cover the whole image)
  • Call 'Filters/Render/Pattern/Rectangular path grid', and specify the number of lines: this generates a path,
  • You can then use the perspective tool (in "Path" mode) to apply perspective to it.
  • Don't forget you can use "View/Snap to active path"
