For the quality sake i have to make seamless tiles for texturing big surfaces on blender objects.
While it's quite easy to make it by hand from a texture like this

Image

making seamless tiles out of this texture by hand is a nightmare

Image

This tile isn't seamless

Image

Is there any standalone application or plugin doing this that you know of?

I was using Redfield Seamless workshop and here's what it does

Seamless tile
Image

The overall results is very good but not great (although, way better than resynthesizer, fill pattern seamless and likes)
I used to get Redfield plugin to work via PSPI but I need something more legitimate and better.

Please, let me know if there is a good (preferably but not necessarily free) program for that.
Thank you.

Using the old Resynthesizer (have issues with new Resynthesizer using this technique), Select all, select shrink (25%), Select invert then run Resynthesizer to tile horizontal/vertical. Also adjusted the contrast to my taste. Not a perfect solution, but a free one. :)

Great results, Lyle!
Two questions. Where can I get old resynth, and how long did it take to bake?
Thank you, Lyle! GTG now. Will check this thread tomorrow.

I believe it was samj that had a synergistic build that allows both old Resynthesizer and new Resynthesizer to co-exist without issues; just can't remember nor have that link now but maybe someone else here has that link. It really only took around a minute for Resynthesizer to do it's thing for this one though. :)

I knew there had to be a Droste coming sometime. :lol
Nicely done Lyle. :bigthup

I do have this small FREE program named stile and it is a pretty nifty little program.
Made by "HarmWare lol" But don't let that scare you.Just a name. Here is the website.
The program has a bunch of tiling filters PC would love. ;)
It seems it is only available in 32 bit version though.

And one more - 4 way flip supposed to be seamless i have not checked yet. :)

Image

EDIT: Using liquid rescale i scaled the image to half its size and tried a tiling and it does indeed seem to be seamless.

I do not understand what is wanted do in this thread. Enlarge tiles textures without noticeable imperfections or repetitive patterns? If so, I'm very interested and I hope you find the best way to do this with GIMP :gimp
If the new Resynthesizer not working well for this, perhaps the probem should be reported to the developer.

I believe repetitive texture patterns is what is being researched here YAFU.

Good to see you again by the way. :)

For creating seamless patterns as from generic images, G'MIC provides several powerful filters under the "Array & Frames" category, among which the most effective one is the "Array [faded]" filter.

Choosing the not seamless picture you posted before as the input image, this is the tileable texture produced by the filter in question when setting both the "X-tiles" and "Y-tiles" sliders to 1:

Otherwise, you might simply resort to the "Make Seamless" filter integrated by default on GIMP, even if I think you already tried this method.
Anyway, here is how this plugin modify your starting texture by making it perfectly seamless:

YAFU, you are using Blender, you know how it works when you try to UV map a texture to object's surface.
When you don't have a huge size texture you have to go with seamless tiles to UV map huge surfaces like backgrounds, walls, floors, etc.
Having a small size texture leaves me two options: to go with low quality render results or use seamless tiles for better quality.
Besides, sometimes you don't want to scale up object in UV wrapper because pattern/texture details (like bricks) should be proportional
to other objects in Blender scene.

@Gino D Thanks Gino! The only thing that stops me from using GMIC is that it is very slow. Usually I'm dealing with huge size textures
(3000 x 3000 px and above) and then have to make a seamless tile out of it. GMIC is extremely slow of such big images and speed is an
important factor for me because i have to texture a lot of objects. The same with Resynthesizer plugins.
BTW, speedwise, Redfield plugin is a winner so far, it creates seamless tiles in a second

It looks like a very good program according to the screenshots, Rod.
Unfortunately it won't run on my Win 7. Program's very old (doesn't mean bad), could be Win 7 compatibility issues.
Tried to run it with Win Vista settings to no avail :(

Hey, I am a newbie with Blender. The UV mapping is far away from my knowledge.
Thanks for the explanation!

Thanks Rod!

rod: wow! you found the s'tiles program :)! that used to be one of my favourites, i used it for all my pattern making needs. the filters are really fun to play with, but my favourite in that program is the seamless scroll image function, i always wish gimp had the same tool.
k1tesseraena: i installed and ran a copy of s'tiles on my computer some time last autumn and i'm on win7. didn't have any problems running it, but the the quality of the resulting images isn't all that good, i think.

K1TesseraEna i do own a license for Filter Forge Pro 3 and Beta Pro 4 so if you need a seamless tile just holler at me.As far as i know FF doesn't except an empty image for tiling (Yet), but i will ask the devs about that.
But FF has so many textures out there (about 5,000 and counting), that i am sure you can find one made in FF and can be made seamless.

Image

And of course with the editor at my disposal i can tweak any of them to my desire.Distortion, size, color, lighting. :bigthup

I do not mind doing this for you if you would like.
