i had a look into stencil graffiti again

there is a website with a bunch of tutorials

and one of the tutorials is specifically for Gimp
http://www.stencilrevolution.com/tutori ... -tutorial/

the author of the tutorials has a pretty detailed opinion about the Gimp Posterize filter (see linked article), which he/she thinks, is different from the Photoshop pendant, and he tries to get a similar effect by changing the Mode to Indexed Colours instead of posterizing

now the curious guy i am wants to know, is there a filter in G'MIC that does the same thing as the Photoshop Posterize Filter ?
also is there a way to get the indexed colous in G'MIC ?
the Gimp filter is pretty slow and has no preview....

Not G'Mic and there is no preview, nonetheless...

Well Gimp is not photoshop but maybe something like this in gmic

I suppose it very much depends on the original image.

awesome, saulgoode !
this script seems very much to do what the stencil guys need

could this be integrated into G'MIC so it has a preview ?

thanks rich !
what this methods lacks is, it does not simplify the image so that you can cut a good stencil from it

i tried saulgoode's script, plus a bit of Anisotropic Smoothing and Split Object to get this result
i guess it would need more cleaning before it could be sprayed, but it looks promising

I wrote a script to do that as well. It is abit simpler than saulgoode's, but does have the option to specify a target palette, so give it a try.
