I have updated the "Identify Image Objects" script, by making it totally compatible with GIMP 2.8.0 and later, whereas the backward compatibility with previous versions of GIMP (as from 2.6.10) is still guaranteed.

This new version of the script is able to handle and then rename, according to the selected method, the layer groups as well as each layer contained within them, for any level of nesting.

With renaming layers, channels and paths so as to show the relevant identifiers, the script has as main purpose to facilitate the task of testing interactively any procedure or plug-in involving the aforesaid image objects, which indeed are recognized through such unique integer numbers rather than by the strings representing their names.

Therefore, "Identify Image Objects" is intended primarily as an aid tool for the script developers who may need to verify directly via GUI the working of certain procedures or code snippets.

Any opinion, comment or suggestion will be very welcome.
