Some previews here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9287

The script in on my Sourceforge repository. In the download section, next to the /scripts there is a /samples that contains a zip with sample tile files.

The real fun is coming up with interesting tiles.

Enjoy.

i dont understand how it works....

i copied one of the patterns you provided with the examples-zip and copied it to the clipboard, then with my base image active, i apply the script

then this error pops up:

"gimp-context-set-pattern"
it says pattern "clipboard" not found

You need at least two images opened in Gimp:
1) your subject (Natalie Portman, Sarah J^H^H^H^H^H^H a horse head...)
2) the image with the tiles (an image with several (small) layers of the same size, with varying luminosities)(for instance, one the XCF in the sample file I provided on Sourceforge)

Make the layer of interest active in image #1, fire "Filter/Artistic/Tile from luminosity", and in the image selector of the dialog that appears, select the image that contains the tiles (#2), and there you go...

Are you running a non-English version of Gimp by any chance?

OK, fixed... (googled for the problem, and it led me to a post by RobA). Download version 0.1 from sourceforge.

i tried them all !

the corners pattern needs the right image for the job....
this pattern filters the detail very much out

You just create a small image and put layers in it. They don't have to be in order, but its best if they are spread rather evenly in the luminosity range. If you use letters you'll end up with ASCII art.

i had a look at your circle-tiles
the canvas is 5x5px
i can create a 5x5px circular selection and fill it with various shades of gray, but still your pattern looks different than mine...

The circles are really circles and not discs. What I created a circular path centered at (2.5,2.5), with a radius of 1.2, and stroked it with lines of increasing widths: .5,1,1.5,2... (from memory)

Cool script, ofnuts! Kept me busy and away from doing 'must do' things for unaffordable 30 minutes :)

Made my own wavy tiles here

Many thanks!

Nice wavy tiles...

For Mark Twain, I'd try:
- flip the tile image horizontally,
- produce another Twain, where the "flow" of the tile tile is NE->SW (instead of NW->SE)
- then join them along a line on his nose, so that the shoulders and iconic moustache are aligned with the flow of the tiles.
