Well I did say if you lead then I will follow - now I'm really rocking - made my first 'spherical map' today for BRL. So let's forget kookaburras and focus on GnuTux!

Might even try that banana tomorrow.

That is great oldmangrumpy! I like the red colour you got in your text. I didn't get such a good outcome the first time I did a BRL. :clap

Hey thank you again Sallyanne - you posted a link to a 'bowl' tutorial so I followed it, had a go at it and combined it with my weekend BRL learning!

So far have read this whole thread...took quite some time and is well worth the effort. Am a member of Linux Lite fprum and wanted to create something special for them. After numerous failed attempts, finally, came up with something worth posting.

As far as spheres go, this one sparked my interest and transformed it into these...don't have the original anymore...forgot to save it :( . This one is named FRACTURE.

....added some color and it transformed into this...the fracture wasn't there initially, the sphere appeared to have two parallel rivers flowing form one end to the other end. Created the fracture along those paths.

Have created my own spheres. Want to try to do something like this with some of them.
Have a good one!

Thanks Molly, if you see anything that can be improved upon, please, let me know. Would also like to thank The Warrior for providing the link for the font. It is now my favorite Gothic font style. Couldn't have done it without the helpful advice from all of you here at Gimp Chat. This is a most enjoyable learning curve. Still have much to learn and try out. The examples shown by the members here are totally awesome...really stirs up my creativity. Going to be a life'r here.

Nice work, everyone.

Bumping the Damascus pattern is a good approach, Warrior.

Cool map, rbdflyboy.

Here's my result.

Not having trouble with the Bevel Reflect logo, but I just tried the ML Bevel Reflect 2.0 on an image it leaves the image transparent or crashes. Worked third time.
Should I just replace the script?

There is really no advantage running ML Bevel Reflect as a stand alone plug-in. It's actually better to use BRL to call the plug-in interactively because it corrects several issues with it. Also, you have to provide an image specifically formatted for the stand alone ML Bevel Reflect plug-in. BRL does this formatting for you and allows you to use standard text/image on a transparent background.

Have just finished the tutorial from SysTemX on creation of gradients from my own pictures, which can also be converted to spherical maps for BRL, having downloaded the various scripts recommended. Two examples below, each created from the flowers of 2 favourite Australian plants in my garden; text from one gradient and background from the other and vice versa!

Just want to say thanks to SysTemX for the tut and to dinasset and RobA for the associated scripts.

GIMP & this forum is becoming extremely addictive!

Thanks GnuTux. The spheres were fun to create and a pleasant surprise. Here is an example of three variants of the same font. Seem to be able to have the gold shine. The chrome isn't quite right yet. Need to figure out how to convert the white to silver and nickle, then it'll shine nice. More experimenting to do.

GnuTux - how do you change from Sphere to gradient now?
I don't use gradients often so it's taken a while to discover that when you go from a sphere to a gradient - it still uses the previous sphere :puzzled :snap :)

If you select your gradient, then click the Environment map type, then click active gradient.

:puzzled No I went through everything, it gets stuck on the last sphere used, The only thing that changes is normal map. :crash :cofscreen
There used to be an input bar, you could type "none" or just delete the last entry.
Yes my version is current.
:tyspin

Yanno system, I just tried it too. I know it used to have something to get rid of the Sphirical emap, I tried it 6 times and when I do end up with the gradient, it also fills in the background, and some of the times I get the last sphirical emap used. Something is broke I'm sure.
Didn't it have the NONE option at one time.

EDIT: exit out of gimp. turn gimp back on and then it will have NONE in that pull down. Now it works with the gradient, BUT, it also fills in the background. If you make a selection before you run it, you will still have the selection so you can invert it and delete the background
