Yeah I will stick to making maps for now Molly, my poor Gimp is pretty bloated at the moment. Time is something I cant spare.
Still an awesome plugin though.

I am sure it will be sorted out one way or the other.

Can't you just hit "Reset" to bring things back to default, then switch to a gradient?

yes, I see that and it works, okay, thanks... now why when you make a selection then use the gradient option with the other one on NONE does it put in a background If I use a purple gradient on the image that is selected, the background turns purple too.

I'm not sure why this is happening.
What type of selection were you using?
Are you sure that you didn't use the wand and selected the outside of your image, then ran BRL?
Can you post the image or text when this occurred?
There's really no need for a selection, if the image or text is on a transparent layer. BRL will do an alpha to selection on the image anyway.

I don't know why this is happening.
I tried using your setting 5 or 6 times on an object and everything worked out fine.
Try making the object or text white on a transparent background and see how that works.

Did another one filled with white and it was the same but a couple shades lighter, but still all scrunched up. Anyway, it is not putting a background in now but I sure don't know why. I didn't change the settings. I think my pc needs a rest or a new upgrade or something.

That's certainly an odd one, maybe Tux can sort this out. Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks Wally, I'm sure if anyone would know, it would be Tux.i think the script is probably okay, it might have to do with the lighting and shadows on the urn.

Yes. you do have to click "Reset" to clear a previous selection of a map loaded externally. After a reset, the script will then use a gradient. I suppose this could be an issue if you're bouncing back and forth between loading an external map and having BRL generate the map from a gradient. You lose your current settings in BRL when you reset.

The solution would be to run interactively and load (or generate with EnviroMap) external maps as separate images. I could also update the script with a toggle to select between using a gradient and an external map.

The only thing I can think of that would cause the background to be filled would be if it were part of the selection, such as you see when using fuzzy select (wand) on an image with a transparent background. When making a selection, ensure the ants aren't marching around the outer edges of the background. The only other thing that would cause the background to get colored in would be the key pixel in the upper left corner of the map not being transparent.

If ya'll have an example of another case, please post the xcf with the selection included.

Thanks Molly and Wallace :bigthup
Molly - did you use color to alpha on the image? I found it left a film over the area it removed. I think I selected it, inverted selection, then cut and pasted it. :puzzled

Ok, thank you, I didn't think of that stray pixel problem that we talked about on the flat maps. Nice to know. Yes I have had a lot of problems cleaning up after removing backgrounds.
When I try to get them perfect, there always seems to be some left behind and it spoils the shape.
Anyway, I will try to watch for those beastly stray ants.

@systemx, yes I use color to alpha a lot but in this case with this script, if all the white is stripped from your image, it ends up too transparent. I use every tool for removing backgrounds and some work better than others, some you can overcome by adding a 1 pixel blur, or stroking with the blur brush. I also try to put a background in to blend it in so the rough edges don't show.
Several ways to skin a cat.

When you get the film over your transparent area, run the color to alpha again and use the color picker to identify the color, then type them in. Even though it may look white, 000000' it may be a few shades off.
