So I guess I need to know exactly the path needed in win 7 x 64. The Gimp I have is Partha's, and is installed in the program files.

Both the MLBevelReflect.exe and script-fu.exe should go into your user\gimp plug-ins folder and bevel-reflect-logo.scm would go into your user\gimp scripts folder. To avoid confusion, remove these files from any other locations they happen to be presently located in.

In Windows 7, the gimp folder is should be located in: C:\Documents and Settings\user name\

In an XP you had C:\Documents and Settings\user name\
and in 7 it's called C:\Users\user name\

Thanks to Partha, a binary is now available for MAC OS X.

It can be downloaded from GIMP Scripts.

Installation
Uncompress MLBevelReflect and place it in your ~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins folder. Restart Gimp.

Menu Location
Filters/Map/

Note: The plug-in was compiled for Patha's McGIMP 2.8 64bit, which can be found at Patha's Place.

Thank you to Partha and to you. A couple things…is this a full plug in, will this be all I need to run the whole bevel reflect logo package or do I still need to put the scm file into script folder? As for the Win 7 on my pc, my gimp paths are quite different than what is posted above. For some reason, I don't have a 'user file' set up on the pc, like I did when we had XP or how it is on the mac. It all seems to work this way, so far. Bevel reflect is the first new thing I've added.
The scripts folder path is c:\program files\gimp-2.8.2\share\gimp\2.0\scripts
The plug in folder path is c:\program files\gimp-2.8.2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins
The python folder path is c:\program files\gimp-2.8.2\python

no, I don't think so. I thought I downloaded the regular win 64 bit.

*checked the gimp info and I can't tell…nothing says portable when I look at properties, just says gimp 2.8 whatever. But I did find where the users path resides. C\users\owner\.gimp-2.8\various folders i.e. brushes, plugins, scripts. Does it matter which path the script and plug-in go, users or the program files?

2Ton could you check your Edit/Preferences and go to Folders/Plugins and post the paths that are there

after I put the ML file into the plug in folder, it all works fine, including the scrolling in the script-fu windows…I just had wondered why I had different paths and if it mattered. Now I know I stuck it in the basic gimp folders and have found the users path so I can add other new things to that instead of the program files path.

Both paths, users and program files, are in preferences, I just checked. I should have looked there first and I would have seen where to find the users paths right off the bat.
C:\users\owner\.gimp 2.8\plug ins
C:\program files\gimp-2.8.2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

2Ton the path you should use for all additions to your gimp is C:\Users\owner\.gimp 2.8\ this is what we refer to when we say userpath and means that that your gimp paths are left with only default gimp scripts, plugins, brushes, patterns e.t.c

Thanks, I will be sure to put all the additions into the user path now that I have found it in the strange Win 7 file system…maybe I am just used to OSX, but I think Win XP was a much easier operating system than Win 7 is when it comes to finding things.

2Ton one thing I noticed when I looked at patha's 64bit is that it didn't have a 32 folder maybe you should check yours

What is a 32 folder used for?

The 32 Folder contains everything you need to run 32bit plugins mainly and a lot of plugins are only available in 32bit (MathMap to name one)

This is just the ML Bevel Reflect Plug-in. You will still need to install the Bevel Reflect Logo script.

Partha mentioned that he would be adding this plug-in to his upcoming McGIMP 2.8.12 release and will include the new scrolling script-fu interface, as well. :bigthup

Thats Good News GnuTux and I hope other compilers do same as it's a necessary patch and probably saves the users from having to do it

Got it all sorted on the PC, now it's time to get it all good on the mac. I put the ML plug-in into my users plug-ins folder, and I do have the script for the bevel reflect and it is accessed via the file>create>logo(gimpchat), but this is what I get, so I am sure I either need to fix something or move something.

Did you install Bevel Reflect Logo V1.5?

There is no reference to "plug-in-mlbevelreflect" in version 1.5 of the script.

V1.5 references "plug-in-mlbevelreflect2", which is what you are using.

Can you see ML Bevel Reflect 2.0 on the menu under Filters/Map?

I do not see Bevel Reflect under filters>map, so I probably don't have the new version. I am going to delete what I have and download the new one. Wish me luck!

*replaced it and I think it's working now as the window had gotten much longer. So long, in fact, that I cannot use it because I don't have the script-fu with scrolling for OSX. I don't suppose the linux version would work or that there is an OSX compile anywhere. I sure do wish I know how to compile, but I don't even really know what it is to compile.

i'm having problems with the update on ml bevel reflect. i have tried both the one from graechan's windows 32bit zip and the on in the windows 32bit zip on gimp scripts. i deleted the old one before i put in the new. with the one from graechan's zip, if i opened it in filters - map - ml bevel reflect it would open the dialog box but then just work on something and show the spinning wheel symbol until i had had enough after five minutes and closed gimp down. that happened all three attempts i made with that file.

using the file from the other zip i didn't even find the plug-in in the usual place at filters - map - ml bevel reflect.

i have the new version of the bevel reflect logo script and tried that script with both versions of the plug-in as well. in both cases i got the message that this script would only work if i had the ml bevel reflect plug-in and the reference to where i could download it.
