Is this a photo with filters or a drawing?

Either way it's nice. :>

Hi Moko. Lena or Lenna is a famous and accepted free image to be used as an image (This image is freely available on the net). I did NOT make the image. I used the image it to demonstrate a way of altering an image to make it into a cartoon like image. I used a few filters ( the normal filters with a standard installation of Gimp installation of 2.6.11. I had to use quite a bit of "hands on" to achieve this result. In other words ieach layer required some adjustments (total layers around 12)

@Mokonafan

Wikipedia has a nice article about the photo. Like the Utah Teapot, it's a standard test image.

Thank You Esper, yes these cartoon style images are Lichtenstein inspired. Many Ps tuts on portrait cartoon effects mention his work. I plan to submit a few more images in different cartoon styles.

@Esper, Nice work, but why do the inkscape method. Perhaps Ps is easier? I played around with IS some time ago, but really never got familiar with it. I looked at the internet how IS makes halftone images. It looks quite complicated and then import the svg into Gimp to finish! Perhaps this duotone raster halftone type image (your first two images) can be done entirely in Gimp. Maybe Not. It does not seem so straight forward. Anyway nice results, Thanks for showing us !
