Hi there,

I'm happy to announce that we've worked hard with Patrick David, to propose you a new set of filters, intended to simulate the look of several different kind of film stocks for your images.
Patrick explains this all on his blog : http://blog.patdavid.net/2013/08/film-e ... -gimp.html

Here is a screenshot of the new filters in action :

Just update your filters and you should be ready to go (require 1.5.6.0+ by the way).
Any comments and feedback appreciated !

By the way, thanks to Patrick to share these magic and precious color presets !

This filter requires a permanent internet connection. Maybe it is something you don't have ?
Do you update your G'MIC file 'by hands' ?

Looks nice.
Could you try to apply the filter anyway, and tell us if there is an error message displaying somewhere ?

Thanks.
Do you succeed in 'updating' your filters when pressing the 'Update' button ?
If so, do you succeed in accessing the URL : http://gmic.sourceforge.net/data_film_p ... nc_+.cimgz
(in your web browser for instance).
If yes, I suspect the problem comes from the fact your plug-in has not been compiled with the support for zlib (looks like it is the 64bits version, maybe samj can confirm this).

If you cannot refresh your filters, maybe you don't have 'wget' nor 'curl' installed (which is strange, because you should have one of it in subfolder '_gmic/' somewhere).

Hi David!

Film emulation preview works fine in 64-bit GMIC 1.5.7.0 [samj build]
Cool set of filters, thanks a lot to both Davids! (Patric and you :) )

alc59 : From your tests, I'd say that the zlib library has not been linked with your plug-in.
It is able to download the file from the Internet (as you can also refresh your filters), but apparently cannot decompress the .cimgz file into your temporary folder (or maybe the access to your temporary folder is disabled ? Does the 'Lab curves' filters work for you ? It uses the same kind of mechanism).

Hi David.

Why this is so? Is the image sent from our computer to an external server?

No, but the presets are stored as quite large files (350Ko for each), so each preset is downloaded from the sourceforge server. No uploads are done.

Even if large files would be nice a option to download and store internally.

It is not always possible have internet connection even here (close to Rome) i have frequent breakdown, from a few hours to several days (once were 3 weeks)

No problem instead to store few MB more , HD space is cheaper and cheaper

I believe the files are cached locally once you've used one. Check tmp/

The name will be gmic_{name}.cimgz

OK, thanks to you and to Patrick David. This filter seems to be very useful for professional photography.

The filter and preview seem to work well. Kubuntu 64bit, G'MIC 1.5.7 beta.

I believe there are two current ideas on why it's not working:
1) you are unable to download the necessary file for the filter.
2) you are able to download the file, but cannot decompress it.

So let's check first to see if you are able to download the file.

Open an image, open G'MIC, try applying a film emulation preset to it. Remember the name of the preset you are trying to use (I'll use Fuji Superia 100 in my example).

On windows, go to the Start button, hit it, and in the search box "Search programs and files" type in: %TMP%

That should open your tmp location in a file explorer.

The file you're looking for is called gmic_{PRESET-NAME}.cimgz
( gmic_fuji_superia_100.cimgz in my example )

Do you see that file in your system?

I don't think he will have this file. And you still don't know if this is because it cannot be reached from the network, or because it cannot be uncompressed.
I need to think a bit about it, in order to propose some other tests to do.
