I'm really liking all the imaginative results everyone is getting from the emaps! :hi5

@Esper -Great job mapping images, Esper! The contoured BumpMap is a nice touch!

What size emap did you use to get the best results when emapping photographs?

@Rellik - That is an awesome effect. Great lighting! :hi5

@tonysteele - Cool texture on the lettering! :bigthup

@Akros - Popeye looks like he's lit from inside by colored lights. :cool

Akros, how did you give Popeyes the colors?

sunset: 1920x1200
horizon: 1024x786
galaxy: 2400x1800

i got pretty mixed results
tried all kinds of images and a lot of them dont work, because the result looks pixelated
sometimes blurring (5-10) the enviro-map can help

i wonder if this environment-mapping could be improved
maybe a new G'MIC filter would be a good idea
surely Ronounours knows how to make this better

2-ton,
I created a new transparent layer on top, painted and played with the layer modes.
Something like what Rod did in viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8371#p109077

Yep. I had the same issues when emapping photographs and detailed patterns. The emaps have to be really large because of the stretching that occurs, which causes the pixellation. There is also the issue of the map bending/reflecting around the bevels not producing smooth results.

I think it's just the nature of the beast, so to speak. :hehe

Had to try another. :)
This is with Gimps rock pattern. And GC Drop Shadow for the 3D effect.

Then a mesh pattern overlay.

One more trial with the basics. I did blur my old gold enviro map and removed alpha channel, also upped saturation, lightened a tad, and used a simple s-curve to get a more metallic look. Nice learning experience.
Image

Time to play...
wood, not the best wood pattern, but it's what I had in gimp patterns. Same M.O., basic tutorial with added saturation, lightness, s-curve...
Image

Not thrilled, but spent too long trying to get the dark metallic look, had to settle for a light metallic look. Gah, for got shadow!
