Using Tux's Environment Mapped Text Tutorial as a starting block created these backgrounds, the only things different to tutorial was the fact I set the lighting to directional and positioned to be shinning directly at the centre of the image, I also turned the intensity of the light down to 0.5, at the end ran a default selective gaussian blur.

Here is the four patterns I started with

Image

All where mapped using the default gold gradient settings from the EnviroMap V1.3 Script by Tux and then colourised.

Very cool.

Nice to see the EnviroMap script be used for backgrounds. It can be used to create some interesting and colorful random patterns, as well. :D

Again thanks for the lovely comments, still playing, you might recognise the star from Peglegs tutorial. Anyways, done two versions one in a dark blue and the other in gold then masked out the stars from the blue version.

Image

The squares and stars are actually alternating between concave and convex although it doesn't seem to show as well with the darker background, so here is a slightly lighter version

:bigthup Nice, the latter reminds me of the packaging from inside a chocolate box. Keep experimenting, I am enjoying the results :)

Thanks peoples, I think this one might appeal to some more then others but ran a mapped object on the bump map prior to the light filter, made sure light settings in both matched as much as possible.

some kind of death star type thingy

As you mentioned chocolate, couldn't resist. The bar was enviromapped but the foil worked better being displaced to the bump map, Although did use a medium grey lighting effect on overlay just to enhance shadows and such.
