last year i sent my brother a very simple birthday card - i made a cthulhu colouring-in page and used rod's lovely crayon script to colour it in. charmingly naivistic, i thought (it's here on gimp chat if you want to see it), and my brother liked it too, so i was happy. but this year i've done something that i think shows how i've developed over my year on gimp chat. i've used so many techniques on this that i don't think i would have learned if i hadn't been on gc. one of them, for example, is using the lighting effects filter with added environment map. i never really managed to get any good results with the lighting effects filter before, but between gnu tux' tutorial here and one of esper's tutorials (that i can't find the link for - help me brother, do you know which one i mean?) i've now started to understand it a tiny wee bit better.
anyway, here's the card! it's based on one of my old knotwork pictures that i really like and want to use for more things. i'm posting it to my brother today and i think he will like it :).

Nice card AnMal, the detail looks really good and the colours are working well together.

I'm sure he will absolutely adore that. Well done Anmal and I am sure I have seen that knot before.

Its a lovely card.
I would like to use that crayon script, too. Where can I get it?

A stunning comeback AnMal! He'll be well pleased with that. He'll probably keep it for a long time - I know I would!

sallyanne: thank you sister :)! i heard from big brother already and he loved the card - another success for the AnMal card making business :hehe . your new avatar is really something! is that a fractal? looks like one of those elizabethan dresses with super size lace collars and matching head dress.
gunoldb: thank you! is that the cover of your book? the crayon script is available for download here: crayon text.scm.
erisian: aww, you know how much i like it when you suck up to me! :hehe seriously, though: thank you, both for looking at it and for commenting. i'm glad you liked it - is it your turn to make some knotwork related thing now?
photo comix: thank you, brother!

Very nice! I was impressed by how "real" it looked.
I think the text might look a bit lost, but that could be my eyes.

Nice work! :D :paint

mokonafan: thank you, sister! :) i don't think it's your eyes, the "happy birthday" text is a bit too dark and melts into the background a bit. i tried to change it, but it took a bit too much time experimenting with the settings in the lighting filter and i wanted to post it as early as possible, so in the end i decided it would have to do as it was.

Awww - thanks Mo. AnMal sadly doesn't think I'm a very good judge of these things though. :hehe

molly: thank you :). but you knw, if erisian likes it it might just as well be really bad - he has such bad taste in things like hot beverages, for example :hehe ...
erisian: oh, whenever you think like me i think you're an excellent judge
2-ton: :rofl :rofl :rofl well, i can't disagree with that!
