Hi there,
I've seen some cool posts about the upcoming
SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 conference here, so let me say we have also written a paper that has been accepted for publication in this wonderful conference.
This paper describes how our recent
in-blending algorithm works (a variant of "inpainting"), and how it can enhance results of patch-based inpainting algorithms. This "in-blending" algorithm is already freely available for use in the G'MIC plug-in for GIMP (filter Repair / Inpaint [patch]), and in the command-line tool gmic (command -repair), since version
1.5.5.1.
On the web page :
https://daisy.users.greyc.fr/daisy-etal ... -asia-2013you will find a gallery where different results are shown and compared with the Photoshop's Content Aware Filling algorithm, as well as a tutorial for using this inpainting feature in G'MIC. The published paper will follow as well.

And of course, remember that all this is released under an
open-source license ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Kudos to
Maxime Daisy, the PhD student I'm currently in charge of, who worked hard to make this possible !
So, have a closer look to this algorithm, it really worth it !
