I love that one 2-ton. I'm a big fan of gold.

ok, didn't mess with the resolution, just took the 72, and made it many pixels long and got a decent result that I can shrink to fit, I hope. The white sparkles dont show up well on this white background, but it will be on a colored background.

Really nice 2-ton. I love the gold too. I am going to see what it looks like on a different bg

EDIT: I had to see this nice text on maroon and royale blue. really cool 2-ton.

I have totally forgotten how to do the chrome style, but this works great for gold bullion. I don't care too much for the greenish tint that shows a bit, but it was the best I could get on this length of text. It works much better on just one big word.

i must say, this effect is quite handy when you are too lazy to come up with something else

did a lot of tweaking on this (another mp3 cover), with a bit of G'MIC - Graphic Boost 2
the filter did give the text this organic look, which i really like

Very nice Esper. The background gives it that pop. I think. ;)

I am wondering what the best environment map colors would make a gold bullion bar. The gold gradient has too much dark in it, IMO, and I'm not thrilled when the sides are so dark compared to the center.

@2-ton, why dont you try to use a real image of a gold bullion and use it as the enviromap ?

Here's a nice little take off of what I've learned from this tutorial. Image

I can't get the bump map pull down to read the bump map layer in this new gimp 2.8.6 version on windows vista.

If I run the filter while the bump map layer is selected then in shows up. But it always only shows the selected layer only.

Pegleg - the bump map layer and active layer need to be the same size I think.

Some more excellent examples in this thread of just how good an effect this is.

I have done this tute over and over all morning. When I get as far as the lighting effects, it doesn't want to puff up and bump the way it is in the tute. I did it before but this time I used one of Espers 2-ton gradients to make the environment map. Just won't work. I posted my xcf below if anyone wants to take a look.

I took a look at your .xcf and I think you might have been using the wrong bump map when in lighting effects. I was able to replicate what yours looked like by using the original text as the bump map and not the one that was merged with the white background and then blurred and inverted.

I could be wrong, but that might be where your mistake was made. Hope this helps. :)

Hmmm, didn't it say In the tute to dupe the text, then merge the duped layer to the whie bump layer, then blur that layer. I will have to go look at that again.

Rellik419 is right.

You need to make sure you select the Bump Map layer from the Bump Map dropdown in the Lightng Filter (not the Logo Layer). Both should appear in the dropdown but only the Logo Layer in your XCF appeared. This is because the Bump Map you created is not the same size as the image. You need to right click the Bump Map layer and select layer to image size (which is a step in the tute). Once you've done that, the Bump Map layer should appear as an option in the drop down, along with the Logo Layer.

thanks Tux, I will try that. Also when I saved my xcf, I didn't save the environment one as well. that was on the other tab at the top.

Thanks Gnutux, that's the other thing I did notice. The layer sizes were different. I'm just glad I was able to help out.

I still can't find where it says layer to image. I am going to try it again with the original envir-map that came with the pdf.
