Thanks. Found it in Filters > Light & Shadow. Trying to find out how to use it. Lots of choices in there.

I don't remember installing it but I see it in my plug-ins folder with a py extension. I looked in the plug-in and found the tutorial the plug-in was written from but not the plug-in. http://gug.criticalhit.dk/tutorials/itext2/

The python plug-in is here:

I didn't stray far from default, O. I followed up with reducing opacity in some layers, turning some layers off, etc. The shadow settings are for drop shadow, which you really don't want too high or dark, I reduced those to 2px each at 75 px opacity. I used dark grey as fill color, and white for light. After switching and testing the different layer modes, I merged the final choices, and then ran Color-Curves to refine the glows and highlights.

I didn't concentrate on what the font was but the effect. This is my second attempt, it isn't too horrendous, it would be better if i was energetic enough to figure out what font it should be. It looks very familiar.

That's very impressive! Are you using a specific filter for that?

No, it's just 2 layers and a filter in Inkscape. I should have taken more care with it and it would have looked better.

One of the people in the fonts newsgroup found the font. I guess that means I've got to get serious now. :hehe

Very cool find O. Nice that the font appears to be free too (but haven't downloaded it yet, but probably will). :)

Thanks O. I used the text php on that site to create the bitmap. Mahvin already mentioned Glossy Stroke 3D and that along with a few addition enhancements, is what I used for the gel step. I've since installed the font (and man did it take GIMP a long time to refresh the font when I relaunched GIMP; lol) by the way. I sort of like it so its now a keeper. :)

When using glossy strokes, try widening the font selection just a few pixels before running it. I love that it leaves your text in 5 different layers so you can treat each layer separately, for blurring the highlights a little bit, etc. Love this plug-in.

Have some more tweaking to do. Need more light/dark contrast.

Believe or not i was messing around today with FX-Foundry scripts, and placing them all in the same place in the menus when i stumbled upon one named just Logo.
That's weird i thought and checked it out.It is supposed to give any text a look like Mac style text.Whatever that means.

It resembles this effect almost to the letter....sorta speak. The glossy-ness and whatnot. =)
It is found under FX-Foundry, usually right at the bottom of the menu drop down list.
Logo

Unfortunately you would probably have to install all the foundry scripts to get it.
Just thought i would mention it though.

Results from running just the script with the correct color and font.

Looks good. I don't find anything at FX Foundry just named Logo.

Couldn't find "Logo" but Glossy looked cool.

Rod might be referring to the FX-Foundry menus that appear on the Filter Menu; It has a Logo section, and the Shrek style logo effect is similar.
