Come across this before but I'm trying to blend these to layers together....

Image

I've tried with a layer masks but it seems to give more of a murky mess in the middle rather than a nice transition between the two...

Image

Just wonder what technique others would use, I've included the xcf with the two coloured layers.

Thanks

Hearty.

OR

make a diagonal selection, fill with black on layermask, then blur by 10px

Thanks for the input but I'm trying to get something more smoother and without the sharp diagonal line across the middle.

I just tried creating a chequerboard pattern from the two layers and using this as blend over the top of a sharp diagonal join between the two layers.

Molly - your onto something there, created a difference layer from the two images and blended over the top of a diagonal join of the two.

Your problem is that when you remove the colors, the red and blue images are the negatives of each other, so their addition is a uniform gray....

ofnuts is right, one of your layer is the negative of the other, so a linearly-interpolated transition in the RGB space will always pass through the mid-grey value that is at the middle of the two colors. Doing the interpolation in another color space (here, Lab) reduces this effect a little bit, but is not perfect anyway.

Molly - I just decided to load up gimp and have a play, came across this issue before, so this time I decided to post for assistance.
Offnuts - Thanks for the advice, it never occurred to me that my issue would have been with the two colours, I always thought it was the way I was blending.
Ronounours - Again thanks for the Advice I shall have a look at this method.
alc - Excellent work on the blend, I'll have a go at replicating this.
Esper - I like the spiral.
