I am gonna start this sometime this week. First, i will draw him out on paper. so i used gimp to draw a grid around him to help me with the form and to help get the eyes and nose and the stripes in the right places. a grid like this can help you do complex shapes. now he is a much easier, in my mind, to draw. some of the guess work of where to start the eyes, or nose has now been taken away to some degree. I feel a little better about it now. I only have 3 days to work this week because of the thanksgiving holiday. so i am kinda hoping to do this picture some time this week. i will share my progress, good or bad, as i go along. hope you enjoy watching this tiger painting. oh yea, i will draw him with pencil and paper to start with, but he will be redone and finished in gimp.

Here's the grid picture i will work from.

Excellent idea to use a grid.

Very nice for guidelines, you can also make a circle around his head and lines like you would for a face ) eye lines nice line and mouth line.

Have fun! :D

he is far from being finished. just a very rough sketch. now to put him in gimp and edited the art work. a lot of mistakes to correct and highlights to add...it turned out better than it started. i almost put my pencil down and gave up. he is much harder to draw than i thought. in some ways i am still not happy with him. but i think i can fix that once i finish him in gimp...

Looks great so far! I'm always tempted to throw in the towel at the beginning. It's easier to stay motivated once it looks like what it's supposed to be.

rdgracer71: i think it's looking good so far. with that sketch to work from you won't have much problem with the rest!

Wow! It might be a coincidence he4rty but I'm also working on a tiger painting. I'm not using any guides though which is quite a good idea. I'm directly copying from a picture in a book. I'm excited to see how yours turn out.
