- Start by clicking "\gimp_2_8_10-32bits-Portable\GIMP.exe"



Windows XP
- Python is not portable. I advise to unzip the archive to C:\ and start GIMP by clicking "XP_GIMP.bat".
- In case of a problem click "XP_Initialization.bat".
- 7 launchers .exe give errors.

Tested on Win 8.1 pro 32-bit , Win 8.1 pro 64-bit , XP pro 32-bit

Tests are underway for the 64-bit version. It may be ready tomorrow.

For now I am not satisfied with importing images in JPEG 2000 format.
Both plug-ins that I use (official and jp2) are not sufficiently "universal": They have a lot of problems...

Don't use jp2, so that isn't a problem for me. Again, Thank You!!!

everything works fine and i like the help preinstalled

A question for that few standard plugins with the microscopic preview (gimpressionist, lighting effects,map object, fractal trace, small tiles...) ... do you think i may replace them with that from Onkel Hatty version?
I'm used to that hack giving bigger preview windows i found the preview of the normal version really too small to be of some utility

Also in general about the standard plugins , i like more Onkel Hatty version (for the others changes are no big but i found anyway the GUI more neat )

... and again the question is do you think i may just replace all standard plugins (with them of last onkel Hatty build )

It is not necessary to change the filters by Onkel Hatty.
I do not know if these filters comply with the GPL. Is Onkel Hatty provides sources?
To get good results, filters should be converted into GEGL.

I know is not necessary but i can't work with too little preview windows (as the standard for gimpressionist )

Yes , but nobody ,as far i known ported yet that group of filters to Gegl

Anyway the hack i am talking about it only modify the hardcoded size of the preview (for the few filters with a hardcoded and microscopic preview window ), and the position of the preview window in the filter UI (placing usually preview on top , sliders and control below )

Those on the link were my own hacks, that of Hankel is more neat but based on similar concept : make the preview usable also to edit something bigger then post-stamp

Mind that even if i found very useful is a very simple hack that cannot break anything :
because doesn't change the filter code if not for the hardcoded value of preview window (when size is hardcoded)

Yes, they do. They are small changes to the source. As a standard, the dialog boxes
provide a vertical box, I just changed it to horizontal.
Some previews are defined very small, I changed the define to bigger size.
Most of the previews can be enlarged by changing a value in gtkrc, but with a vertical dialog,
it is sometimes not usefull, the lower part of the dialog disappears on the screen.
I do not provide full source, but the complete patches of my changes are in the same directory,
where my unofficial version resides.

Question to Samj and Onkell Hatti - you can make (own-author) version you are using (also with its own addon folder. Gimp-2.8)?
I've lost my resources because of a computer crash - download from one source (an expert like you) - it would be nice!
I think this is also a suggestion PhotoComix - from a single source is acknowledged to download the program and the best accessories.

also Samj portable version has the equivalent of the user gimp addon folder, the only differences is that is called "preferences" instead then .gimp-2.8

About a best version i agree that is hard to chose ... as i wrote i would prefer a Samj version including Onkel Hatti tweaks (maybe even vice versa .. )

I quickly looked at the changes created by Onkel Hatti. I'll try to apply the changes to the filters in the 2.8.10 version of gimp.org.
If the results are good, I will provide a new directory of "plug-ins" with maybe some DLL (we may not use the same environment).

I think doing that in the coming days.
