Hey David!
Thank you for finding time to reply.
Just a few afterthoughts.

1. Yes, GIMP is getting a new engine in 2.10 but a lot of people will still be using 2.8 ( because of GMIC for the most part)
or have both versions just like quite a lot of folks are still using 2.6 because it's more stable and has the tablet support that is not broken.

So I can envision GMIC, even in its current state, to stick around for many many years to come. It will become obsolete
only when YOU will make it obsolete by porting plugin to GEGL.

Not sure about this :)
Most people will install and use the latest stable version of GIMP, whether plug-ins work or not. I'm sure most people just don't need G'MIC at all in their workflow, and even if they were using some G'MIC filters, they will try to make the same thing with something else.
On its release, if the 2.10 stable version of GIMP is not compatible with old plug-ins, G'MIC will be obsoleted (most previous users will not use it anymore).

2. I can refer to the GIMP plugin browser as an example: i don't have to remember the exact name of a script or plugin,
I just type in what I need to do with my image, for example, "pixelate" or "sharpen" and all related plugins show up.

That's exactly the structure of 'tags' I was talking about before. That's exactly what would need to do, but that's definitely a big amount of work.

David have you put any thought into just making G'MIC a standard program? That is to say a stand alone with an interface like the plug-in? I for one will not be updating to a newer version of GIMP if the G'MIC plug-in fails to work in it. I can live with Gimp-2.8.7 for a very long time. :)

I think the search feature should be part of the G'MIC interface and not require any external shellout or connection to a webpage. All that is needed is a simple search box in the G'MIC filter interface.

This is the one here that one of you very clever script writers could put together, I would go to gmic more often if we had that. I don't go at all now unless I see some one using something like this smoothing filter.

1/ on your image create a new transparent layer above
2/ on the trans layer cover objecs you wish to remove in green and the rest in red
3/ set Input Layers to active and below
4/ click OK

Use with settings on default then experiment

Here is a small script that will add a menu item <Image>G'MIC/Help>GMIC Filter Webpage.
Click it and it opens a browser window where the list of G'MIC menu items resides. This list is updated all the time so it should stay pretty fresh.

Thanks Odin but the script was an adaption of a similar script by John Laubach.

I actually had a small problem with it launching my Internet Explorer instead of my default browser. I remedied this (for the time being), by making the list page my home page in IE so now i load the script , the browser pops up, and i then click the little house icon (to load my home page) and the list page comes up. :)
Don't know if that happens to anyone else running Windows but that fixes it.

Thank you all the same Rod.
I have bookmarked gmic filter-list page but have difficulties to locate it among hundreds of other bookmarks.
Now with your script the list is just a click away. Really helpful, thanks :bigthup
