Wonder why they didn't add it to the updates or to the plug-in.

Going to see if I can find it.

I'm batting zero. I can find examples of it that PhotoComix has posted, but no filter for it.

I keep going around in circles from here in Gimp Chat to Flickr. :gaah

No, it's one the PC shared from his own settings, that you have to add manually. I forget which post it's on, its been awhile...

You might check some of his older, but recent GMIC posts?

Here for starters:

I do understand that I have to add it to the .gmic file but first I have to find the filter.

Thanks Rod. I didn't realize that one-liner was the filter. I made a new file, .gmic_faves and put the filter in it. It shows in G'MIC now but I get an error message.

Those are presets, not filters. The filters are the actual code that runs the presets. I think sometimes we confuse ourselves when we don't properly identify what we are speaking about.

Filters have long lines of codes and presets are like one or two lines (the settings for the filter).

It looks like there should be 15 presets in that list, if I am reading them right. In my Faves I see 6, so I assume that I am reading it wrong.

Mahvin is correct those are presets for some of the filters PC created.

In my faves 6 presets are there, plus 4 that seem to be the rest but are kind of joined together?
They all work though.

O try just copying the entire faves code and paste it. See if that gets rid of the error.
PC will help you with this soon i am sure. :)

Oh wait i know whats going on - those bottom four showing in the image are from my .gmic file they are actual filters PC created.
The six on top in the image are presets for those filters.

Rod: Yes, exactly. The indented ones are presets (.gmic_faves), and the ones not indented are filters (.gmic). When you save a setting in G'MIC, it indents that preset on the top of the list. However, you need the appropriate filter to run the preset it works for. So, when PC or any other author creates a different variation of their filter (and renames it) the presets will need that filter to work. For this very reason, I keep some of the original filters, so the presets continue to work.

On a side note, I have one preset that didn't work, so I deleted it (before I knew what I was doing). If I understood PC correctly, some filters require certain versions of G'MIC in order to work, so my guess is that David keeps the currently added filters usable for newer versions, but if you were to go to an older version of G'MIC, you run the risk of not being able to use certain filters that have been recently updated (by you) in your .gmic file, and also rendering those presets unusable in your .gmic_faves file. :geekon

Man, this almost gets borderline confusing, but the ideal thing to remember is to keep your filters that have specific presets created for them.

Yes so O you would have to install all those filters PC created in order for the presets to work.

Thanks for clearing that up Mahvin. :)

I am using an old XP machine and created the .gmic_faves file, but none of the faves are there. It does have the listed name and is in the right directory. The .gmic file is there, but the .gmic_faves just doesn't seem to work.

That's odd - and your sure the .gmic_faves file is in the Application data directory?
You sure the file has a "." in front of the file name?

Windows often try to add a .txt extension and at the same time may hide the extension name (if is a commune one as .txt,.jpg and so on)

that can be solved changing in "Search" the options for file and folder.
