2-ton: that's the tried and true method of symmetrical perfection. I recall a plug-in for faces that does this sort of mirroring, it's somewhere on the Registry, let me find it:

http://registry.gimp.org/node/24247

Although, simply duplicating one half and flipping it works just as good. :)

thanks for the screen shot! I did find those scripts in 'create'! But I still don't have both script-fu's in the dialog box under filters. My dialog box only has 1 script-fu and no scripts in it! I'm thinking that it will magically appear when I put in a script that is registered to be in that spot...at least I hope that is the case!

@mahvin...put the mirroring script into the plug ins folder but can't find it...where is it stashed?

but I did manage to follow the tut for the hrule heart...nice method.

It creates a menu called utilities in Filters. :)
I edited it to go into a menu under Filters name symmetry. That way any other filters i add that have to do with that can go there nice and neatly.

Well, I don't have filters >>> utilities >>>symmetry. Is that the exact path? Actually, I my filters menu does not have utilities unless it's hiding inside some other choice.

grrrr, I closed gimp and reopened and still no filters/utils or utilities or anything remotely similar!

hmmm, I looked and I see that I put symmetry.py into my plug ins folder. Is that right? But maybe I don't have python? I never added it separately, is it already in 2.6? If not, that is the problem! I have a python console, but have no idea what it is for.

Does a Mac require python files being executable (like Linux)? I have no idea. Anyone else know?

I downloaded the file and it downloaded as symmetry.py.txt so I had to delete the .txt extension. Also, in Linux, I right-clicked the file and looked in Permissions and I had to check the box for allowing it to be executable.

I expect Mac's OS may have a similar action somewhere.

I gave it a try. Unfortunately, with the heart it removes the transparent background and uses the BG color.

PhotoMasters method looks to be the best but then you may want to do a alpha to selection/selection to path and move a couple nodes in at the top and bottom - like this.
Image

So you get that sweeping in look at the left and right center areas like this.

Obviously you can do this much better for nicer looking results than i have, but you get my meaning. :)

cool idea, I had forgotten you can create a path that way so you can adjust your image! I think I finished my project but it's on my other computer and I have to try and move it over to this computer to post it.

heh, I guess I lied! I just figured out how to fix the settings so I can get into my pc as long as it's online.
So this little poster is the whole reason I wanted to make a nice symmetrical heart, lol. Some posters can be made with just a few steps, others seem to go on and on as I try to do what is on my mind.
