I found this in a local junk/antique shop at the weekend. There's a serial number on it that I checked out and it turns out that the watch was made in 1914, nearly one hundred years old. I've no idea how it ended up in this country and it's a shame it can't talk as I bet there's a great story to go with all the pockets it's travelled in over the years. It's fascinating to me to be looking at something this old and wondering about it's history.
I don't think it's worth anything, the glass is missing, as is the minute hand, and none of the mechanism works, though it does look pretty cool. I paid £10 for it as I like finding different things that I can take pictures of. Money well spent.

Nice find Caz, I think it is worth something as long as you don't change anything on it. Maybe keep it in a nice glass case with velvet lining.

Nice one, Caz.
I love finding old stuff like that at a second-hand shop or garage sale.

Can maybe take it to a watchmaker and get it fixed up.

Its a lovely piece. Could it have even gone to war?
Wonder if you could get it restored...

Oh my! I love genealogy and delving into transcribing 16 and 17 century records, a find like this to me would take me back on a trip. Who wore it, how did they live, love - what kind of life they had. Beautiful! Enjoy it and thank you for sharing your find.

Thanks everyone. It's a great little shop I found it in. The guy who runs it always tries to squeeze as much out of me as he can but we haggle a lot and I usually get a price I'm happy with.

I'll definitely do something with it as it's survived all this time.

I was thinking that myself. It's something I'm going to look into.

Yes I took the photo and it's got a lot to give yet. Depending on the angle there are some great reflections in the casing of the dial and clockwork mechanism.

That's what I was wondering, that maybe some American solider brought it over here during the first or second World War. There's no way to tell though.

My imagination can run riot when I find things like this, they would have so much to tell if only they could.

I'm really getting into the lighting and such like of still life objects. Still got a lot to learn but I think I'm making progress.
