Hello there,

I'm happy to announce the first minor update for the newly introduced 1.5.8.x serie of the G'MIC framework, with the 1.5.8.1 version. Enjoy ! There are interesting new filters in it for retouching image details..

Hi Ronounours!

Where can I get the new version, and most importantly, how do I update?

The procedures for updating these plugins are usually complicated and give many bugs, so I avoid the most constantly updating software, but these new filters in G'MIC are tempting.

You're very welcome. Molly had just pointed the site out to me, right before I saw you ask for it.

Hi all, not sure if this is the place to post but here goes.

It seems Iain Fergusson's Texture Enhance filter is missing from the standalone gmic.exe, downoaded from the official sourceforge site
I'm using the Win32 version

gmic for gimp works though and i can use it just fine in Gimp 2.8
Is there any plugin or dll that I may be missing?

Texture enhance should be in the 'Details' folder. If it's not there try doing an Internet refresh. The refresh button is below the filter list in the plugin.

The new version doesn't work on 32-bit LinuxMint (Mate edition, version 13, using GIMP 2.6.12). All I get is:

GIMP Message
Plug-in crashed: "gmic_gimp"
(/home/qruqs/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins/gmic_gimp)

Any suggestions on how to proceed...? Any dependencies that might be worth checking for?

Yes, I use the 32-bit version of the plug-in.
Yes, I downloaded the binary version, not compiled by me.
No, it doesn't help to put it in the "/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins" directory, same error.

***UPDATE***
It seems that when I first invoke G'Mic, and choose a filter (any filter), it crashes. But if I open G'Mic again, the filter seems to be working, and the plug-in runs as it should, until I choose a different filter, then it crashes again.

***UPDATE TWO***
I spoke too soon. After a little more testing, any slider, or edit box, or dropdown I touch, it crashes. I can, however, resume work on the same filter after showing the G'Mic filter box again. But it gets rather annoying in the long run.

I guess I'd better downgrade to 1.5.6.1.

***UPDATE THREE***
I got a brain wave, after a mild brain storming, and went and got the .deb package for the plugin (something I usually don't do) and found out what was missing. At least libfontconfig1 needs updating.

Been thinking about upgrading my system anyway, so maybe it's time. I would like to wait for Mint 17, however, which is a Long Time Support version, just like Mint 13. So I'll sit on this slightly older version until I upgrade the whole system. We'll see. Thanks anyway.
