Ello everyone, i hope christmas, new years and or what ever holiday you celebrate was awesome.

Ok, so i have scanned in some calligraphy and used inkscape to convert it to a vector image. I opened said image into GIMP to smooth out and edit the lines from shaky hand or just ink that bleeds around. haha.

Well, now that i have edited the vector (un-aware the gimp could do this) what do i do now to keep it the same svg with same nodes and stuff? i need it svg so i can use it in scribus

I do not know how to trimm and smooth out vectors paths in inkscape yet. I am not even sure this is the best way to accomplish what i am doing. I want it a vector but NEED to edit some ink blots out and un-even lines..

thanks

Matt

Just re-export the path to SVG? (right click in the Path list and "Export path")

I am a noob and only use gimp and inkscape.. but this is what I would do:

use inkscape to create bezier curves on the "curvy" toggle setting (top left on toolbar when you click bezier curves0 and then use the path effects editor to "bend" and "spiro spline". it makes all lines curvy and beautiful, unless you press control when you do a node in which case it will let you make an angle.

i have never used gimp to make vector rendering because inkscape handles this so beautifully.

Here is an example of me tracing something i drew by hand with inkscape bezier curves. I made my path shape trace in "triangle out" and "triangle in" and matched up the fat butts of the triangles on the thicker lines by hand.

This was before i knew inkscape had a magic button I could click that would turn everything on the page into a path handle, so i didn't have to trace that all out by hand, but i liked how it looked!

schroedinger, I never got to develop myself in Inkscape as well, maybe because I never have found a good tutorial for beginners as those so well elaborated by gimpers.
Could you direct me to a good tutorial for beginners Inkscape?

http://screencasters.heathenx.org/ is a good source of beginner video tutorials. The version of Inkscape is a bit out of date, but the concepts still apply.

yes those - i haven't done too much in inkscape, mostly i only even use it to make vector paths because i like the ease of sculpting them. but everything else in inkscape is too slow for me to use easily unfortunately!
