Hey guys,

i've been experimenting with borders lately and was wondering how could I add dashes and dots around (as simple as possible...) any text /font that i'm working with at the time.

While performing an alpha to selection, i got inspiration for a cool look (see pics)

The 3rd example, (black & white dotted font) it's a font consisting of dots (if anyone knows of a font like the dotted font please feel free to share...) I'm sure it's an actual font type, but it would be nice to know how to create this effect as well as an actual border of dots.

Thanks!

This script from Graechan could help: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9135

As for the dashes, I'm not sure about that.

Both "Edit->Stroke Selection" and "Edit->Stroke Path" permit specifying a dashed line style:

I completely forgot about that method.

With my path-waves script
- text to path
- apply path-waves once (for circular dots, use the circle)
- apply path-waves a second time with a half-period shift
- merge the two paths
- path to selection and bucket fill.

More complex shapes can be obtained by mixing various waves.

@ ofnuts... I follow the link, but can't find where to download this script.

Is this the same script? http://gimpscripts.com/2011/10/path-waves/

Yes, same origin. But I don't know if the gimpscripts one is the latest... The download location is here (link in the Home page): http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-pa ... s/scripts/

I did download the script from Gimpscripts, but I'll download it from sourceforge.net to make sure I have the updated script.
Thanks ofnuts! :bigthup

There is another way also.
Stroke with a paintbrush or brush tool. Just use a small circular hard brush with high spacing. Then do,
Right click then "alpha to selection" on your text.
Edit>Stroke selection>Stroke with the selected paintbrush (No Dynamics).

You may have to undo and try different brush spacing and sizes.
