I started having this problem after I started using gimp 2.8,
I might want to try 2.6 again, where can i find virus free 2.6 download?

well this gimp 2.8.10 cant be fixed so I installed 2.6 and brushes are working fine..
I think this is bug or 2.8 .
I really want them to fix soon because I loved 2.8 for some good improvements from 2.6

If you think this is a bug and you want it fixed, file a bug report.

(also instead of going back to 2.8, you can see if Partha's alternate builds also have the problem.

I mainly use Gimp 2.6.11 and have Partha's 2.8.4 portable build. When I copied .gih brush pipes and .gbr brushes from my 2.6.11 to my portable 2.8.4 Partha. The brushes don't work correctly in my portable 2.8.4 Partha build.
My portable 2.8.4 is a fresh copy nothing added or removed, it's just a stock/out-of-the-box 2.8.4 Partha build. So I can't see why it would be a "profile" issue that is causing this brush transparency malfunction.

Are you using the paintbrush tool and not the pencil tool? The pencil tool does not support transparency and will give results like you show even with brushes that have transparency.

You should have mentioned in that first thread from the getgo that you're using Win 8.1
Looks like Win 8 - GIMP compatibility issue. Been reported by many users.

It could be called a gimp bug, but 2.8.x work fine on Windows XP SP3, 7 and even Vista,
while Win 8 has/had all kinds of problems with other software as well (both Open Source and proprietary).
The way I see it - it's the Win 8 swarm bug (well, why am I not surprised?)
Win 8 was horrible, Win Blue just a tiny bit better but not so much I suppose.

@RobA That was one of my first guesses but it does not explain how it was fixed at some point after re-installing gimp (see the 1st thread).

OMG thank you so much for telling me this,,,
I felt if you tell me so, i felt i was using pencil too.. and I installed 2.8 again and i checked and yes you are right.. i was using pencil too that is why the problem was happening ...
I think in 2.8 the placement of icons are different from 2.6, and I didnt see the icons well ...
Thank u so much for helping me ,now everything is working fine!

im very sorry that I thought this was bug... it was just my mistake lol

Thank u so much for advice! As i posted above, it was just my mistake... lol
I never thought i was using pencil tool, but i was...

I think the tool icons placement is different from 2.6 inn 2.8 so I guess that is why i was picking up wrong tool
so I use brush tool now , and everything is working fine!

and os, when i made first thread , i was using vista , and after that that pc broke and i got new one 2 days ago, and so now os is windows 8.1 ..

so far gimp 2.8 is working fine on windows 8.1
