I had to stop working on this one as it was weighing in at 1.6GB and Gimp was starting to struggle with it, turning a layer off and then having to wait 20 seconds or so before anything happened, that kind of thing.
All thoughts and comments are much appreciated and here's a link to the bigger DeviantArt version, http://fav.me/d72uqxm

I really do love your work Caz. This has a lovely dark gothic feel to it and it is very well done. I would personally be tempted to mirror the gargoyle on the other side but I think that is just a matter of taste.

great pic, but maybe my screen isn't as brilliant as others. I really can't make out a gargoyle and can barely make out the train. For me, it's a wee bit too dark.

I like it, but I think it could look better if you placed another Gargoyle on the opposite side of the tunnel, like this.

caz: 1.6gig???!!!! good heavens!! i suddenly don't feel like suggesting any changes at all... :hehe . i had no problems seeing the gargoyle and i like the dark gothic atmosphere in it, so i didn't think the image was too dark. but maybe a little more contrast in the gargoyle or some darkness on the wall behind it to make it stand out a bit more? i disagree with erisian and wallace too, i don't think two gargoyles would improve the picture - i guess it depends on how you see the gargoyle, though. if he's just a stone element, part of the tunnel construction, there should be one on the other side for symmetry. but i saw him as a real creature, maybe watching the train in search of prey, and why would there be two gargoyles doing the same thing?
i do agree with erisian about your work in general, though. you put together very atmospherical pictures and i always enjoy seeing your work!

Thanks all for the comments, there much appreciated and always of help to me. :bigthup :bigthup

I can see how having a Gargoyle on both sides of the tunnel entrance would balance the image but, and I'm pretty much running with Anmal's take on the picture, I saw the Gargoyle as a living creature, waiting for the train to start passing it before it took to flight and started escorting the train, a kind of wingman I guess. I think I need to do more work on the Gargoyle to make it look as if it will take to flight at any moment rather than looking like a stone statue. The size of the file is making further editing a bit of a struggle though, so I think I'll work on the Gargoyle as a separate image and see what happens.

It is a dark image even on my screen as well, I always find it easier to blend the different elements of a photo manip if the general atmosphere of the piece isn't too bright. It could be that the brightness on your monitor is a bit low, I'm no expert about theses things though.
