3D-Extrusion updated to V2.2, with the option to grow along X-Axis for a wrap-around effect.

Update available on Gimp Scripts.

Pretty cool effect there, Molly. :bigthup

Using the new option & growing along the x-axis should produce something like this..

I believe this is the effect Lyle was after. Growing along the x-axis, using a longer line of text, should result in even more of a "wrap-around" effect.

Did you leave the rest of the settings on default for that one Tux?
How about this one.

Thanks Rod & Molly.

Looks great, Molly! :bigthup

I overlaid a pattern over the text and merged down before I extruded (will be an option in next release). I set it to extrude along the x-axis and and bumped up the extrusion depth a little. After extruding, I tweaked the colors/contrast/curves to get the final result. I also scaled up the shadow along the x-axis to match the text.

Another day, another update.

Several changes were made in 3D Extrusion V2.3. There is now an "Extrude With Pattern" option. If Extrude With Pattern is checked, the original layer/selection is overlain and merged with the selected pattern, which is then extruded.

I've also added support for GIMP 2.8.x Layer Groups, while maintaining backward compatibility with GIMP 2.6.x. All newly added layers now maintain their relative positions, no matter the position of selected layer within the layer stack.

See the first post in this thread for complete details on the use and features of this script.

That's about all I can think of to add to this script. Although, perhaps some perspective shift options could be added to produce this kind of result. I shifted the perspective of the text before running the script, then extruded in a downward direction (90 degrees). I enabled both "Overlay With Pattern" and "Extrude With Pattern" options on this one.

I love that last one you did Tux, What were the settings and the font you used on that one?

Molly, the font I used is Verdana Bold. On that last one, I shifted the perspective of the text, using the perspective tool, before running the script, then I extruded in a downward direction (90 degrees). I enabled both "Overlay With Pattern" and "Extrude With Pattern" options, using the default pattern of Dried mud. I then tweaked the lightness/contrast/curves of the 3 layers to get the final result I was after. I might have duplicated the Overlay Pattern Layer a couple of times and merged them together, which is a good way to make the pattern overlay more pronounced.

Just playing..

When I try to open the file, after downloading, it says I can't open as an archive? Not sure what that means.

Warrior, it sounds like your system is trying to open the .scm file as an archive, .like a zip or .rar file. I just downloaded & tested and it opened right up in my text editor. It's just a plain text file. I guess you could ensure that you've associated .scm files with your text editor. If that's the case, you should be able to double click on any .scm file and it should open right up in the associated text editor.

Exactly what it was. Thank you very much. Very cool script. Love it.

Yes. The Extruded Environment Mapped Text turned out well. You can do it now. Just use the EnviroLogo Script (or the Tutorial) to create the text and the 3D Extrusion script to extrude. :cool

I haven't really considered adding extrusion to the EnviroLogo Script, but it's an interesting thought. :hehe
