Getting better and better Tux. The water drop effect is very nice.

That waterdrop pattern was posted by Draconian here.

Another variation, with more pronounced droplets....

Thanks for sharing. I already have that water drop that Drac posted many moons ago.
That second droplet text is very nice too.... Did you add some brightness to it?

I duplicated the pattern overlay layer, which did cause it to brighten up a little but mainly, it made the droplets pop. Duplicating the pattern overlay makes the pattern more pronounced.

I also extruded the same text with the water pattern, turned the opacity on that layer way down to 20% and placed it between the two pattern overlay layers to get that final result. This step wasn't really necessary. I was just experimenting. It only served to soften the final result a little.

Those are cool results, Graechan, smooth and crisp. The bottom one is really wild. :hehe

Looks to be a couple of problems there, the main one being the pattern you are using is not seamless. The pattern used for an overlay needs to be seamless (or large enough to cover the graphic). The color of the overlay doesn't look right either. The top is darker blue. Is it supposed to be that way?

Image

Also, it looks like you ran the Highlight script on the extrusion layer. The highlight should be ran on the "CHAT" layer (or what I refer to as the end cap). The highlight helps delineate between the top face of the text (end cap) and the extrusion. That contrast is especially needed with an overlay, because the overlay pattern layer covers both the text face and the extrusion, with no contrast between the two. The pattern overlay layer takes on the difference in contrast between text face (end cap), the extrusion. and the highlight layers (depending on the layer mode you use on the overlay layer). The default layer mode is "overlay" but I change that around to.see what mode gives me the better final result.

I had a gradient on the text before I ran the script. In the one yesterday you said you (Extruded gradient with a water drop overlay and added highlight.] I thought you meant by that you applied a gradient onto the text before you ran the script.

I went all through my pattern files and couldn't find that water thing cuz a lot of them are called numbers, like 037.pat etc. Anyway, I got the pattern now by the proper name and made it seamless. This is my latest try, I think it is getting better, probably needs more tweaking.

Looks much better. :bigthup

Yes, you're right, I did apply a gradient to the text before I ran the extrude script. I guess that would account for the blue on top of your overlay.

The water pattern filename is blue-drops.pat and "Blue Drops" in GIMP's pattern dialog. It's already seamless.

The drops show up well! I think I like the first one best. The 2nd one seems somewhat over saturated. I think a good drop shadow might help too.

Thanks, I didn't put a drop shadow in because of the shape of the extrusion and couldn't tell where the light source was coming from. I know it was from the upper left but the right letters of the text isn't slanted the same way.

I think you'll need to shrink the shadow a little to match the "shrink "extrusion.

That's what I did here..

I like that but I don't know how to put the shadow on both sides the way you did, you have them off to the right on the left side and to the left on the other.
How you do that ?

Create the drop shadow like you normally do, then scale it down a little using Layer/Scale Layer. Make sure you create the full shadow under the text so you can drag it around to where you want it. I use GC Shadow and click OFF keep "shadow above selected layer"
