Sounds like a plan to me. :2thup

You could attach a poll..

We can weed out the bad emoticons and add in better ones, while we're at it.

If anyone has any favorite emoticons or other ones that might be appropriate for this site, please feel free to upload them. :yesnod

Poll added.

Will it be possible to have the GIMP icons separate from the smilies?

Well, anything can be done but currently there is no code structure in place to allow two different sets of emoticons and there would be some work involved to split up emoticons in such a way. Let me check the current code and think about that for a bit. There might be an easy way.

However, we can pick and choose which emoticons show up on the post entry page and there is plenty of room in the box for more emoticons. We can place them on the post entry screen first and see how that goes. How many of them are there?

So far, there are 55 gimp tool icons.

The one with backgrounds are 30x30px.

The transparent ones are smaller.

55, huh? Well, that's more than I was thinking.

I think we need some examples of each style side by side before we vote. Maybe stick them in the first post of this thread or put a link to them in the first post of this thread.

Either that or split the poll to a new thread..

transparent BG
(well even white BG but just because with the default theme result will look identical)

Great idea to make the icons into 'smilies'. They will make it easy for many of us who aren't too familiar with some of the more complicated directions.

Here are examples of all three styles of icons. I've updated the zip file so that all of the icons are in it. The previous one has been deleted and the new zip file is here. There are 59 of each style.

It seems like you've already done the work, nonetheless I would point out that all of the icon images are available in the GIMP source code tree:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp/tree/themes/Default/images

:faint

Thanks, saulgoode. I at least have a source for other icons now.

Was trying to find a folder icon for gnome/F12 a few days ago and I'm sure I'll want others too.

These are all of the transparent icons. The zip file is attached.

You all may want to check through them and see if you think any can be eliminated.

I think I like the transparent ones best because people use different themes so are used to different background colours.

Give me some time for smileys. I didn't have the time for it yet, but wanted to start a thread about it. I think there are a lot of "basic" ones missing. And other basic smileys should be to the left of the and not in the view more smileys pop up.

Also instead of :wh you can fit 3 or 4 smaller smileys there.

I'll have a look for the smileys I think are missing. One of them is a simple Image but there are better ones for that. Just need to go through smiley websites.

No don't remove the cool smileys. Just put the in the pop up and most used ones on top.

I noticed the double smiley, that's why I stopped. I started to make mistakes.

Also :bigthup needs to stay on top. :seeya too.

Y'all did see the two more pages of emoticons listed under the "View More Smilies" link, right?

Yes of course. Where do you think I got :wvy and :hugme from?

PC, I was just saying that :wvy should be moved up because it's a greeting smiley.

This is a good sleeping smiley for on the reply field page since it's small. :zzz

And this one :bawl is better then the really sad I suggested. And I see the :bowdown praise is already in there too.

I'm just suggesting to use the room next to reply field best as you can with the most used smileys there and the lesser used smileys in the pop up. :)

Has anyone looked at the transparent pack I uploaded to see if there are any that can be eliminated? Here is what is in the zipped file. 61 icons.
