Thank you conbagui, AnMal!

@AnMal Right, 2nd image - gmic's 3d extrusion. The only problem - the filter is very inconsistent in producing the same result from the same input image/layer.
The last image was made in Illustrator.

And this is how the 1st image is supposed to be looking when finished

Those would make excellent PhotoFonts. :)

cant stop messing with ai script that I discovered yesterday

Image

btw, I guess that's what I meant in GnuTux's 3D Extrusion script thread viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9273&start=10#p121376

For the b/w images it would be great to have as an option the extrusion based on image's height(depth) map.
Although, without it I get an interesting effect too.

Nice results, tried doing something similar but manually and failed, so would be interested in what this ai script is you are talking about.

k1tesseraena: why not using the G'MIC plug-in for doing this kind of thing ? :)
(well, I'm cheating, I've just added the filter few minutes ago).
Let me know if you think it's interesting !

After a filter update, there is what you should be able to see (requires version 1.5.8.0+ of the plug-in).

The cool thing with this filter is that it creates a transparent image, so you can easily add shadow or other effects on it before putting a background, like this :

How is that ? :sleepkbd

Another simple example, created from scratch ('Create from logo'), applied 3d blocks filter, then added some light effects.

wow, just wow David!
You are a magician! I like your gmic filter even better than Illustrator's.
More controls like tilt, fov, size etc.
Thanks a lot for the new filter!!!

BTW here's the Isometric Block Raster script window. It has the light control settings.
But lacks other features that your filter has.

I will try to add more controls in the future, like something to control the smoothness of the elevation map, and probably the position of the light source too.

Thank you, David! I think your new filter deserves a separate thread so more ppl will be aware of the update.
This filter is awesome!
