Warrior wants to be able to close an image without closing the program but he can't. When he closes the image without saving the changes, the whole program closes. I don't believe that is how it is supposed to work.

See my response here.

I saw your response and I didn't agree with it. When you click that X you are just directing the software to close that project. Actually most software has 2 X buttons, one for the software and one for the project. It's silly having software that won't allow you to close the project without closing the software.

You need to read my response again. I clearly spelled out how to do exactly that in GIMP 2.8.10..

Oops my apologies. I read it a few times but it didn't register until now. I think I have a mental block towards learning shortcut keys because it's too easy to use the mouse. Perhaps they should introduce an extra X for closing the image if this change is by design and not a bug.

It's not a bug. That behavior was changed in GIMP 2.8.6.

What's new in The Gimp 2.8.6: June 22nd, 2013

GUI:
Don't allow single-window docks to shrink smaller than their requisition
Make sure a single-window's right docks keep their size across sessions
Allow to change the spacing of non-generated brushes again
In single-window mode, make Escape move the focus to the canvas, and beep if the focus is already there
Be smarter about unavailable fonts, and don't crash
Make clicking the single-window's close button quit GIMP
Make view-close (Ctrl+W) only close image windows and tabs, not docks

Of course, it only makes sense in Single Window mode. ;)

Just curious are you using single or multi-window mode?
You might want to check out the what's new.
From: Gimp 2.8 What's New wrote:
New file save workflow.
Now Save and Save as work only with xcf formats. If you want to export an image in another format, say jpg or png, you have to explicitly Export it. This enhances the workflow and lets you simply overwrite the original file or export to various other formats.

and, In multi-window mode, you can now close the Toolbox without quitting GIMP.

I should have read better. I'm not used to having the single-window mode.

Likewise. When I rush through threads my brain picks out what it thinks I need to know and filters out the rest, then I miss important details. :hehe

Haha, I hear that, especially after doing a fresh install, and having all that stuff on my mind.
