Hi guys,

I tried to install gmic plugin on my Gimp (version 2.6.12) :
- I put "gmic_gimp" file on my /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/ directory
- I lauch my gimp and there is a new menu "G'MIC...", this is look nice
- When I click on it (with any picture loaded on GIMP), a new window is displayed but when I chose any item the window is killed and I have this error message :
/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/gmic_gimp: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/gmic_gimp: undefined symbol: gimp_item_is_valid
I use Xubuntu 12.04 (64 bits), I have downloaded G'MIC plug-in for GIMP (Linux 64 bits) (maybe it's the last one : G'MIC 1.5.8.3).

Someone can help me ?
Thanks

I'm not a Linux user, but what I know is that GIMP 2.6.x are used to be only 32-bit.
It was GIMP 2.8.x series that became available as 64-bit software.
Maybe you should try 32-bit gmic or install latest 64-bit gimp on your machine.

undefined symbol: gimp_item_is_valid

That error suggests that the plug-in is intended only for GIMP 2.8 and later.

I'll test on 2.6.11 because G'MIC has always worked for me on this.

Upgrading to 2.8 now was a good idea as 2.10 will be available soon and 2.6 is becoming a dinosaur of sorts

At least 2.6 isn't as slow as a dinosaur! :hehe

I probably should have deciphered my 1st post here: while you may be able to install and
successfully run 32-bit plugin on 64-bit software, running 64-bit plugin (gmic in this case) in 32-bit program (gimp 2.6.11 in this case) is bound to fail.
Since all 2.6.x gimp are 32-bit, installing 64-bit gmic was a mistake.

I think you were understood K1Te. Using this version of G'MIC in 2.8 was another issue brought up by saulgoode.
