Does anyone know of a way to have gimp only use the fonts that I put in my gimp font folder?

And does it make any difference if I have the Add-on Manager?

There is a MrQ font manager, but I don't have any experience with it.

I have the MrQ add-on manager, but am not sure if it can be used for the fonts too or how to do that.

You can add/remove the font folders GIMP will use under Edit/Preferences/Folders/Fonts.

I'm not sure how to direct GIMP not to use system wide fonts.

There is a way to stop default windows fonts from loading in gimp but it is something I would not recommend instead you could use the resource manager to load only the selected fonts you have added that you want to use

Thats the way I would have done it. I would make a new folder like I did with the brushes and name it.
I would take all the brushes out of the default folder that I want to use, and move them to a new folder and name it. Then name all the new subfolders inside, eg.Thick Fonts, Thin Fonts, Hollow fonts, Fancy, Cartoon, Gothic, Script, Dingbats, Holiday, etc.
I would then put all the rest of them into another folder and place the rest of the fonts inside and name it Misc. or anything you want. You would still be able to use these. Then make sure your default folder is empty.

What about system fonts, fonts that are used by all apps, including GIMP?

You would have to move the fonts out of there (in Linux as root) and they wouldn't be available to other apps while using GIMP.

You do have a point there, I wondered about that. I thought as long as they were in the new folder in their own sub, they would work, but yes, then they wouldn't be available for other apps.

At a minimum you'll need your Windows system fonts. A good Windows font manager for any other fonts would be helpful. Setting one up after-the-fact can be a pain but it's worth it if you have tons of fonts.

Here's a list of font managers.

Ok I gave up. So I went to Windows fonts and deleted every font possible and whittled it down to 30 fonts. I then installed the downloaded fonts into Windows fonts, for a total of 60 fonts including the 30 that I was unable to delete.

I thought that this would make my life easier when scrolling through my fonts. It didn't. Gimp is still showing ALL of the fonts that I deleted from Windows. How do I get rid of those fonts in Gimp so that it only recognizes the Windows fonts that I have installed.

you will still need to go to your cache folder in located at below↓and remove the cache files there
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\fontconfig\cache (user is usually your name)
now when you restart gimp your fonts will be OK

I have already done that and restarted Gimp. The fonts are still there.
