Hey guys,
I'm uncertain of how to copy multiple layers I have (50+) from one file to a new file(s).

Why you ask? because I learned the hard way with my computer's specs (2gb ram) that having files 1gb+ slow a computer down like hell. :hoh

So basically, I need to take each folder I have (50+) which have 5 or more layers in each and create a specific .xcf file for each design(folder)

Problem is, I can't seem to find a way to do so in an efficient way.

What's more, when I do copy and paste a whole folder I see 'floating selection', which I am unclear about. Is it possible to somehow copy the entire folder as it is with multiple layers and all and paste it into my new file?

Thanks in advance

Don't use paste, use paste as new layer. That will prevent the floating selection.

Could you post one of these design folders that you would like turned into an xcf for someone to look at, this would make it easier for me to script the action of conversion

You can drag layers from the Layers list of an image to the canvas of another.

You can also use File/Open as layers to import several images at once in another image (and if these images have layers (XCF) they will be indivudual layers in the target image.

As stated in this thread (where I apparently misinterpreted your description), you can combine the layers you wish to transfer into a layer group and then dragon drop the group's fundament* to the other image.

* I am calling the layer group's top-level "layer" its fundament, since it seems inappropriate and confusing to call it either a layer or a layer group. Fundaments have a little triangle to the left of the thumbnail which permit expanding or collapsing the group.
