Hello Gimp folks, I am very green compared to all of you because I know nothing about photo editing of any kind, much less with GIMP itself.

My reason for getting the software is that I sometimes need to change the file extensions to a simple jpg format. I was told GIMP could help. A quick Google said that to switch from xcf would be a simple matter of choosing the jpg option in GIMP. But for some reason that option is not available in the drop down menu. How can I find it? Is there something I can do to make this the default choice since jpg is pretty much all I ever need. At least at this point in time.

Thanks!

You have to look for "Export" under "File" and export the XCF file as a JPG.
