I had been practicing drawing the human anatomy (and I still sucks :gaah ). I keep changing my focus because it gets boring so easily. Now I'm drawing eyes and my notebook is getting filled with spooky eyeballs. I tried painting eyes in GIMP (not so good at it still especially when you only have a mouse to use for doing so). Painting in GIMP have been a big problem to me. In this case the eyelashes is a great problem. They just don't lend themselves well to painting with a mouse and leaving them out just looks weird. So I also do this paintings as expirements to try out techniques that I hope would work. Surprise! :yes I was able to get descent eyes!:

I also experimented with painting skin here following many tutorials loosely. Getting close to making a descent one I hope.

Critiques and comments welcome.

Those are very good, but if a mouse is hard to use, you might benefit from using Gimp on a tablet (not the iPad type, but the electronic drawing type of tablet)

Well, I don't have one now so I have to do with what I have.

Well, I'm actually planning on buying a cheap graphics tablet. I'm so excited to have my hands onto one.

You're scaring me just with a mouse Ralmon, I dread to think what you will be capable of with a tablet! Those are excellent eyes. Don't worry about doodling eyes everywhere - I used to do it all the time and it's how I learnt. I'm just wondering if some of your shadows could do with being a little stronger.

Yes you are right about the shadow Aris, their needs to be a shadow from the lashes. The rest is excellent.

Molly, Erisian: Yes, I should have added the shadow. Been to focused on how to paint eyelashes that I forgot about it. Will, always put that in mind next time.

Fabulous eyes! And for a mouse even better! The second one seems a bit blurry but there are styles that have that soft-blurry look so it's no biggy. Good work! :3

Great eyes. So impressed these were done with a mouse.

Really strange I should have just joined today and needing advice about a tablet, perhaps someone who has made comments on your post could recommend a mid-range tablet which we could get to make the best use of for original graphics like this.

Sorry to jump in on your post but this advice could be good for both of us :hi5

As others have said, those look really awesome. For help with the lashes, shadows would give it some depth. Also the smudge tool with a soft brush, no spacing, and a low rate will smooth out the harsh lines and give it a nice taper and fade more like the real thing.

Anmal: Thanks. I'm glad you like them.

Mokonafan: Thanks. Yes they are blurry, but then often times you paint digitaly often in bigger size than its final size (twice or more) so the blurriness would virtually disappear when scaled down. One of my most admired paintings have these styles. They look really detailed at a distance but they look like dabs and spots of colots up close.

Marcello: Will look up that book. I look at it at amazon and it seems people are ver satisfied with it. It seems a good book that artists should have.

QSS: I think so too. Many tablets I've searched turned out to be very expensive. They are full of features but most features just seems unnecessary for hobbyist and beginners. I'm looking for a quite basic tablet. It should satisfy my needs.

David Wood: I'll try those. They seem to be great for this situations. Will keep them in mind in my next drawings.

Thanks everybody. You really give me confidence that I would be able to create great art one day. Thanks.
