i was messing with the code of a gmic filter i did but something weird happened

Obviously i did some errors but the result is somehow interesting, the filter make apparently most of the image transparent but preserve the highlight and light color as yellow and for misterious reason even the red
obviously may be easily adapted to do the contary, preserve black and i suppose the green and turn the rest semitransparent

Apparently:
just add a black layer under and you will see something close to the original but with stretched contrast except for highlight..and replacing the black BG with a dark optical pattern result become even more interesting

ORIGINAL

Filter Effect (with under the gmic layer a black layer as BG)

Now...Replacing the black layer with a pattern

Or as bg layer may be used a dotted version of the original...

or simply as below a more psichedelic pattern

Image

The problem is that i don't know yet why that happens, still that semitransparent layer seems to have a lot of possible use

so i zipped the xcf file with the code i used
Mean that now the controls do not work as intended even if somehow they change the final result

CODE HERE download/file.php?id=1455

PC:

Why not make two versions and name them according to their output? I would clearly love this particular option, even though its an error, plus to see what your intended code should have resulted in.

different settings (mainly the checkboxes) will change something but not much...remember to see the result at first on a solid black BG

@ O
the pscichedelic effect come from the BG layer that is seen trought the transparency

For the bg i just filled the BG layer with BW lines, then i edited the lines with fractal trace

I was very lazy to see what the filter does should be sufficent use GMIC in verbose mode
Going to do now...

Still i am confused if seen on a white BG the result looks as crap

ORIGINAL

Image

Filter + White BG

Attachment:
car.jpg
car.jpg [ 291.95 KiB | Viewed 1254 times ]

BUT on a black BG looks really diiferent ,as the original with a strected contrast, but with highlight protected

Attachment:
car2.jpg
car2.jpg [ 370.43 KiB | Viewed 1254 times ]

that allow the psichedelic effect i show before by replacing the black BG with a pattern

But also something else ...here i run the filter once, duplicated the result, changed the mode in Multiply
(top dup) and hard light (dup below) using the original as BG

Attachment:
car3.jpg
car3.jpg [ 343.96 KiB | Viewed 1254 times ]

but still i have not really a clear idea on how to use it, except to create sort of mask or psichedelic effect

One thing comes to mind for a good application of this filter would be blending two images together in parts. Like for instance, take one object of an image and transfer it to a second image and blend. I have yet to experiment with the idea, but it seems at least mathematically, it would be a good mix.

I had a picture taken of me in our backyard way up in a tree.
I used the weird FX script, and a gradient bg.
