Looks awesome, Awesome, AWESOME!!!
Esper, can you please post an imagge before applying anisotropic filter?
I can't quite catch what it did (or maybe my understanding of "anisotropic" is out of date ;) )
Seen the minimalistic stuff in your blog about a week ago. Loved it

whoa K1te, i did not really expect any reactions ;)

thanks a bunch !
that damn meander-pattern took the whole afternoon to figure out (hint: pattern along path with no stroke/fill placeholders) :hehe

the sunburst in the middle was of course made with tiled-clones

the anisotropic smoothing is just to get rid of jaggy edges, nothing to show really

you can get the original IS generated bitmap from my blog, then colour to alpha (white), lock alpha channel, drag 50ies grey over it
bevel with layerfx
then chrome curves (http://gimp-science-labs.blogspot.de/20 ... urves.html)
then anisotropic smoothing as in monsoonami's chrome tutorial (http://youtu.be/EVVlItASBoM)
then Colorize
then G'MIC Graphic Boost at default (Graphic Novel works as well)

oh and thanks for the compliment on the more minimal stuff i did !
i try to catch up

you know who got me on that train, yeah ? (right, it was YOU !)

All the bevel and boost aside the vector part is done brilliantly :bigthup
My bad, I missed the 'smoothing' in relation to anisotropic, it's been a long time since I used GMIC, I thought of
something else, more 3D related stuff.

for all people who like the pattern but dont use Inkscape, here is a vector (svg-file) you can import into your paths-tab (in Gimp)

Esper, very impressive, I have tried your meander tut on your blog. Unfortunately, my Inkscape skills have deteriorated after two years of not using it. (use it or lose it), so after four hours I gave up. I will do your tut within a few days.

Managed after all (in a fashion). Definitely have to hone my Inkscape skills again.
Thanks for the tut

Nice tutorial, I spent a couple of hours on it and came up with this
Image

Had a problem which I've yet to resolve, if it can be. When I stroke the circle path at the end of the tute the stroke cuts into the design and reduces the width at the bottom and top. I guess I need the stroke to move inwards, toward the centre of the circle, on the inner path and outward, away from the centre, on the outer path, at the moment both strokes move in toward the centre of the design. I use Inkscape once in a blue moon so it takes time to find out some stuff.
I did notice on the tute that the 'space between copies' amount is not specified on the pattern along path section. Not a real problem as it forced me to experiment to see what was going on, 10 for the spacing seemed to work good.

Learnt a lot in the last couple of hours, :tyspin

nice to hear you all found the tutorial useful :bigthup
i think combining Inkscape with Gimp gives you a whole new range of possibilities to work with
some things are just so much easier in Inkscape (working with text for example)

thanks, wbool

two years with no practice are a long time
great you finally made it ! :clap

yes, the path cuts onto the pattern when you increase the stroke-size
thats why you have to scale the object afterwards, to adjust it
when you hold down Shift and CTRL while dragging the handles, the circle will grow/shrink from the center and stay perfectly round

you dont need a space between copies if you made your "invisible placeholder" how i showed in the tutorial, but your solution works just as well :bigthup

(or perhaps its an even easier and better solution, now that i think about it)

Nice work Esper, reminds me of the art deco plaster mouldings you'd find on buildings. Also thanks for the paths download.

Thanks for the tip. I scaled the inner and outer circle as suggested, missed it first time around, and that sorted out where the paths cut into the pattern.
I think the trouble with the invisible placeholders was that after I had grouped the parts of the pattern that were still visible I moved them. Not sure if this is what happened but I guess that the invisible parts were left behind when I moved the visible part, and so when I added the pattern to the path there was nothing to space the pattern.
I live and learn.

Hi Esper!
My result was a bit distorted.

I believe that the more complex the pattern, the more distortion can present the end meander.
The @URH Lazur said something about using "spiro-path live path effect. I will research about it.

We missing you here. :hoh

Thx for the tutorial!

Thx you Wbool63!

Whenever I try to go back to using inkscape, I end up giving up.
Now I decided that I will do at least two tutorials per day.
This tutorial was enriching in my learning.

Today don't play with inkscape ...
But I still have time left! ;)
