A result for a tutorial I just recorded for the basics of gimp tutorial I've been working on, and this cameout to be the final result. (It's actually a very easy and simple effect to create)

I bet that will be a popular tutorial. Very nice results.

I love that result, Mike, I tried doing something similar using G'MIC this past summer of a snowboarder. I think the image is on Flickr G'MIC. Not nearly as good as yours, though. :)

Thanks Guys! Anyone want me to post a text tutorial on how to create this effect???

In essence to create this, just grab an image and put it into gimp as a new document, have just the person in 1 layer without the background, make him/her black (colors/colorize) make a layer below that for your background and make a new layer above it all and make the hill/grind rail (I just used paths, a brush, and filled that with black) then the light streaks are stoking a path at 8px (bg color for the line streak) and another 4px stroke on the path above that, the 8px 1 has a 8px gaussian blur, and 4px 1 a 4px gaussian blur I merged thoughs together and then made another new layer and stroked that with the sparks brush, and went to colors/colorize to adjust the color, and then merged it down, then did the erasing to make it go over, and under the object, in this case Rodney Mullen skateboarding :)
